INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - $475 is what itll cost to have one child ride the bus for a year in Franklin Township.
The school district no longer offers bus transportation, and theyve leased their busses and transportation center, too.
Weve sold those buses to CIESC with two provisions, says Franklin Township Superintendent Walter Bourke. The first provision is they can only transfer Franklin Township students. The second provision is that if we want the buses back, we can buy them back for what we sold them for which was $1.

Franklin Twp, Marion County, IN has one of the highest property tax rates in the area.
Well, given all of the obese children in this country, maybe this is a start to getting them to walk a bit.
I say let ‘em walk!! When I was a kid I had to walk 4 miles to school, uphill, both ways!!
When I was a kid, I walked to school!
It was five miles, in rain, snow and freezing ice! Up hill.... Both ways!..................
You know what?
Apparently the Superintendent doesn’t believe in “shared” cuts to the very real expenses. However, I walked a mile each way to high school. A few kids got picked up and dropped off by parents, but most walked.
Surely parents can determine whether it is more cost effective to drive the kids to school or to pay the cost of the bus.
$450 divided by 9 is $50 a month for 2 rides a day for 25 days and that comes out to $1 per ride, which I say is perfectly reasonable.
GMTA!.................
Due to a lack of sidewalks and narrow roads, the children have never been allowed to walk or ride bikes to school. The majority of the roads are two lane county roads that don’t even have a berm.
Going to be interesting seeing how they get all the elementary children into the schools by 7:20 a.m.
Actually, in nearby Warren Township our neighborhood got annexed by the City of Indianapolis which left us going to Warren schools but with NO BUS SERVICE into our neighborhood.
We had to walk a mile or so to catch a Warren Township bus.
By the time any of us had a car available to go to school we were all running a good 50 pounds less than today's porkers.
GOOD!!! About time the parents paid the way for their offspring rather than sticking it to the rest of the taxpayers. The county ought to charge parents tuition for their children too
IIRC we had to purchase bus tickets when I was a kid. I hated the bus. Only bought one ticket. I think that the ticket had 10 places to punch and at the end of the year I had about 8 unused.
Ditto on the “porkers”. I went to HS in the mid to late 50’s and fat kids were a real rarity back then and they were reminded they were fat every day.
I bet there are provisions for low income people so the childrens can get to school on time for their free lunch.
The parents have already paid for the busing through their property taxes.
Apparently they have paid for something, but not the bus.
I wonder how long this will last....
If you think that, then why won’t they let the regular taxpayers ride the bus?
This way...you'll know who wants to use it...watch..the numbers will drop a whole lot..
I highly doubt liability prior to setting foot on school grounds...........
Just exactly why do We pay taxes?
