I was blessed to attend a speech by George Wallace in the late 70's.
It was sponsored by a local rancher (at his ranch) in Florida - George Wallace in his wheelchair, but just as fiery as I remembered him in the 60's, although I know that his heart had softened by then.
Gary Sinise played him in a pretty good biographical movie.
Human flaws for sure (like any of us) but a great American none-the-less.

“Human flaws for sure (like any of us) but a great American none-the-less.” I agree. I went to high school with both his kids. George Corley Wallace, III (generally known as George Wallace, Jr.)and Peggy Sue Wallace Kennedy. Both were very nice and she was drop dead gorgeous.
