It's looking more and more likely that Congress will not hit the August 2 deadline, but according to Charlie Gasparino you should have no fear.
He reports that in secret, the administration has been making calls to Wall Street, telling bankers that the administration will find a way to avoid no matter what.
It's not clear what that means: Payment prioritization, the 14th Amendment option, or perhaps some new special measure Geithner could pull out to conserve cash?
That being said, the Administration reportedly does believe that a downgrade is still likely without a deal that cuts costs.
A lot of folks have suspected that August 2 isn't REALLY a debt default day... it might explain the market's ennui at the failure of politicians to solve this issue.
Meanwhile, one GOPer is out saying that if Obama did let a default happen that he'd possibly be impeached, which is hilarious because others have talked about impeachment in the event that the 14th Amendment is invoked.

Kind of shows how they've got this whole thing trumped up for political theater.
I really believe the White House is looking for any crisis that can make them look like heroes.They want to blame the GOP for a government default, but they don't want to have to actually deal with what a default would do to the day-to-day operations of governing.
I wish they’d stop thowing impeachment around at the drop of a hat. It looks, and sounds, and is, stupid. Not for this anyway.
Push our plan and keep pushing it hard. Hit the airwaves. let the voters hear us and decide. Don’t fold, etc. But they sound like 3rd graders every time they do the, “of he does that we’ll impeach him” dance. No you won’t.

Doesn’t matter IMO....the MSM will spin it the way they want to..in the beginning. And millions will believe that....and not pay anymore attention.
This idiot is now openly discussing the most deliberately, brazenly unconstitutional act an American president has ever committed, which is to say authorizing the issuance of debt over the black-letter Congressional prerogative, and that's not enough?
What's next? Zero unilaterally imposing his budget? After all, he would no longer need Congress. We'd be a defacto dictatorship. If that isn't an impeachable offense I would be hard-pressed to find one that would be.
