If it had been a scene in Atlas Shrugged, the guy would have disappeared into the secrecy of Colorado with a shadowy figure who we would later learn to be John Galt. In real life, the story will probably be more complex. But I wonder how long its going to be before businesspeople really do start walking away and deciding its not worth doing business in America today. Or it it already happening and we just dont know it?
The man you see in the picture at the right is named Ronnie Bryant. He operates coal mines in Alabama. Id never heard of him until this morning, but after what I saw and heard from him, Id say hes a bit like a southern version of Ellis Wyatt from Ayn Rands novel. What I saw made an impression on me.

I tried to get "the little woman" to move there, but she balked.
If only Montana had Wyoming's tax structure, the decisions would be trivial.
I was looking into a giant road trip that included a drive from Denver to Dallas. That seemed to be a relatively nasty leg timewise if one wasn't interested in stops along the way (I've pretty much explored that territory over the last few decades).
We decided to fly to Dallas and back and delete that part of the trip while deferring the rest for a few weeks.
Enjoy.
yes on Canada = especially NS, NB. Laid back - much like 60 yrs ago here... and they seem to be pulling back from the brink while we seem hell bent on going over...
66 degrees at 10:15 mountain. Nice sunsets over the
BridgerTetons.
Wish I could have brought the dingos, but they have cows to watch.
The mosquitoes are quite vicious here.
They are a Cargo cult. They just know that there is no such thing as producers. Cargo is delivered by a fleet of C-47s.
In other words, it’s called “The Aristocracy Of Pull”.
bump!
It’s the best decision I ever made to retire and shed my businesses. Life is Good!
Pretty much sums it up. Makes me wish Hank Rearden (sp?) ran an armory instead of a steel mill.
This should be repeated and repeated....
Thanks for the links; I’ll be sure to check them out!
We have a family that we know and they too decided to shut down their gun business because it has become too expensive to keep the doors open. All the regulations, fees, taxes, liability insurance etc make it nearly impossible for a mom and pop to open and maintain a business. They needed to have an accountant, a lawyer on retainer and subject themselves and their private lives to public scrutiny.
It’s a shame..
Take up metallic cartridge reloading. It gives purpose in life and produces a potentially useful commodity. The way things are going, we will need all the ammo we can get.
They’re not really environmentalists. We’ve seen the same in my community many times.
* Established residents and real estate interests don’t want any mine or gas well in their area, even if it’s in the middle of nowhere.
* Established residents and real estate interests don’t want working class families doing real work or having real families in their neighborhoods.
* The families of established residents and real estate interests are flush with government incomes (mostly local, receiving federal funding) and incomes from services that depend on customers paid by government.
It’s too late to avert the default process, and it has nothing to do with Ayn Rand or the effete in general. Real engineers (with PEs) and technicians are far tougher and more resourceful than Ayn Rand’s book characters (management perspective).
Some of you will prepare yourselves. Those with personalities of snooping, falsely alleging bullies or brown noses will not. And the political parties are socialist interests competing with each other.
Bryant said that the locals were against men doing real work, and that’s exactly the social problem in counties across our country. The remainder of the default process is inevitable. After a few short-lived attempts to continue politics as usual after the default, you will have real men as your new leaders.
You are right. We have them in our community too. And while many are liberal, you can't necessarily divide them along partisan lines. Its a contingent of people who, in the words of my step-father (who was a city alderman for years), just like to bitch about anything and everything. Its a very self-centered view of the world.
When you get a true leftist on this subject, they get furious.
They will rage at the businessman because his “selfishness” is purposefully “depriving” the community of jobs. It’s his business, dammit, to work, pay taxes, and support the “poor”.
I’ve seen them practically spit. They never blame the lib government. Only the “unwilling” producer.

And here they are, on a discussion board that’s supposed to be conservative.
