And, for the record, for 1,800 years it was "Christians" who persecuted, raped, pillaged, and murdered Jews, while Jews living in Muslim lands were largely left alone.
Not true at all. Jews were ensalved, murdered, forceably converted, or at best subject to Dhimmitude, a system somewhere between Jim Crow and apartheid.
Jews have been treated well and poorly in most societies. America and British colonies have been the exception, generally treating Jews well. The myth of good Islam and bad Catholic Europe comes from a confluence or propaganda from Protestants, Jewish liberals, Enlightenment politicians, and Arabists. But it remains a myth, and a foolish one at that. Sadly, American Jews are taught this transparent lie at a young age and internalize the propaganda.
I read it is a teenager and asked the teacher at my Reform sunday school why if Europeans treated JEws so poorly, were most Jews living in Europe 100 years ago, and why is it that the Jewish and Samaritan plurality in Byzantine-occupied Israel in 617 all but disappear by the time of the Crusades? I got no answer.

Not true at all.

While it is true that Christianity and Islam have largely switched places in modern times in how they treat Jews - just a casual perusal of Jewish history will support what I stated, and contradict your "not at all" (which seems to want to place history in an "all or nothing" category, which is the nonsensical attitude I was responding to).

I suppose your reform education did not teach you that the sages of Europe migrated from Europe to North Africa, and eventually the Middle East? It was not until the so-called Enlightenment and subsequent assimilation that Europe appeared to be less hostile to Jews (we will leave you alone if you don't seem so Jewish). That is not to say that Muslim lands were friendly - but my comment was in response to a ridiculous assertion that "Jews hate Christians" meanwhile claiming no responsibility for Jewish suspicion of Christians. Everyone should own up to the fact that anti-Semitism is ingrained in Christianity AND Islam.

The fact is, the dispersion and exile are supposed to be hardship - and they are. Whenever Jews are separated from the Land of Israel, it is spiritual deprivation.
