ESCONDIDO — A 41-year-old Escondido man was arrested Thursday after allegedly taking photographs up the skirts of several women as they walked through a large retail store, police said.
Store security officers called Escondido police after seeing a man walking behind women while they were distracted and taking a pictures up their skirts with his cellphone. The security officers kept the man under observation until officers arrived and arrested him around 4 p.m.
Police declined to identify the store. Lt. Craig Carter said similar incidents can occur at anywhere.
“It’s about making women aware everywhere,” Carter said. “To focus on one particular store would make it seem like it’s the only place that (illegal photographing is) happening.
“The store did a fantastic job of keeping the suspect under surveillance constantly.”
Three of the women, in their mid-30s, were located in the store and were unaware that they had been photographed. Police are reviewing store video surveillance footage for the investigation.
The man was arrested on suspicion of three counts of disorderly content by illegally photographing another person under or through clothing without consent; giving false information to a police officer; and use of false documents. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed an immigration hold on the suspect.
Carter said another similar incident is under investigation. Authorities have investigated at least 14 similar cases around the county in the past 12 months, and there may be more, Carter said.
“Predators like (the suspect) target victims that are distracted and unaware of individuals within close proximity,” Carter said. “The Escondido Police Department encourages people to be aware of their surroundings and call the police if they observe any suspicious activity.”
For the life of me I cannot see the attraction of this kind of sicko weirdness.
Deportation is okay but only after he is neutered with a dull butterknife and has a few thousand volts of Electroconvulsive therapy.
Well this article is certainly news to me! Who thought women wear skirts anymore? I see maybe 1 in 50 women wearing a skirt around the Sacramento area. They all wear pants and still tote a huge purse.
Good thing I am not a pervert as I would be a very frustrated one trying to find that 1 in 50 skirt-wearing woman.
