CHICAGO (CBS) Three Illinois residents who have changed their gender are going to get new birth certificates that reflect the change.
As WBBM Newsradio 780′s David Roe reports, the change was made because of a lawsuit and a judges order.
Lauren Grey, Victor Williams and Nicholas Guarino filed the lawsuit against the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Grey started the process of changing her gender in 2001, but her birth certificate still says she is a man. Williams and Guarinos birth certificates still identify them as women.
Ive struggled for too many years to be able to live as a woman only to have a birth certificate that constantly reminds me of the gender Ive worked so hard to put behind me, Grey said in an American Civil Liberties Union news release when the lawsuit was filed. I am who I am.
The lawsuit filed by the ACLU said since about 2005, the state has refused to change anyones gender on birth certificates unless that person has undergone genital reassignment surgery.
However, the lawsuit says: what is medically and psychologically necessary treatment for transsexual persons varies from person-to-person and does not always include genital surgery. Especially for transsexual men, genital surgery is rarely completed.

it’s called a “birth certificate” for a reason.
it is not a “choice” certificate
Wouldn’t that be fraud?
Concur. Historical fact is historical fact.
You can’t change a historical fact.
Is the real birth certificate going to be kept on file somewhere since it IS a historic document that was issued in the past? I would demand that this be the case, and certified as the original, correct document.
Seems to me that this could be used to conceal one’s identity.
For the sake of argument. A man commits a murder and manages to elude capture long enough for a sex change and change of birth certificate. Doesn’t that effectively erase the existence of the suspect?
In fact, I could see this being used in a lot of ways including changing place of birth, age, parentage etc.
And your also still a man or woman based on your chromosomes.
No matter how much you mutilate your body.
I guess they can create a third sex, and I would be more willing to accept that. Maybe something such as “mutilated androgynous” or something.
“post-operative” certificate.
I would like to think that a birth certificate would be a factual historical record. It looks like instead these freaks can change the documents to say, for example, that they were born in HI as a boy on a particular date, even if parts of that are not true.
A reply to myself here, just a point for discussion.
I’m not a doctor, and I don’t profess to be very medically inclined, but doesn’t this open up the medical field to all sorts of liability?
I mean, aren’t there medical differences between a man and a woman, and shouldn’t a doctor or hospital know what sex a person truly is? What about prisons? Putting a sex changed person in the wrong population?
I dunno, this opens up a can of worms.
“Is the real birth certificate going to be kept on file somewhere since it IS a historic document that was issued in the past?”
Why? We’ve already accepted the worst kind of precedent — and president.
that too, good food for thought.
As the zero made clear, birth certificates are optional.
This ruling makes them useless and unnecessary.

Indeed, you are who you are. You are a male because you were BORN a male! You are NOT a woman. You are not living as a woman because you were not a female when you were born and, as such, you will NEVER become a woman. No amount of makeup, mutilation, paperwork, attorneys, and judges will change that fact or your DNA!
LOL!
How about “mutilated androgynous non compos mentis”?
No your a dammed nonhuman freak, and the ACLU lawyers should be strung up
