I liked the response from the Canton Police Chief. It sounds like he’s taking the right steps and has a better attitude than his employees. I’ll have to wait and see what the result is, though. The cop isn’t suited for the police force. He should be removed from the force, but I bet they have a union contract that won’t allow that.
Well, simple in the fact that it requires minimal outside supervision and purchase of new equipment/positions. Difficult because it is “so judgmental”.
Let this case run its course and when the penalties are assessed have the Canton PD pay for it by having a special assessment levied against all of its current and past employees. To a large degree they failed to correct this problem and in doing so aided and abetted the most current incident.
So, why shouldn't they, individually and collectively, pay for their failure?
Once it hurts everyone, including those “not on scene” the entire PD will realize that they have a vested interest in self policing themselves, union leadership be d@mned!
This approach would get rid of the “problem child” even if the union tried to protect him; encourage everyone in the department to correct or dismiss “bad actors” before they get out of line; and, possibly serve as a curb on the “bad actors” themselves.
Right! “It will never happen Captain.” because it is so judgmental and demeaning.
“I liked the response from the Canton Police Chief”
I don’t. I read where he said something like “it’s a touchy situation when cops get a call that a gun is involved”.
This was no such thing. There was no call at all. They pulled up on a stopped vehicle.
Furthermore, you can see from the rest of his comments they’re going to claim “there’s nothing we can do to him. Union rules, etc.”
