he can’t defy a lawful order given by the sitting president. there isn’t much else to say about it as far as his involvement in this goes. I don't believe that is correct. The law gave the military discretion to enact the DADT repeal only when it didn't threaten security. Panetta didn't have to do this. Panetta has chosen a path that will make the US military another social program.

Only because the economy is so bad. When that changes, if ever, the acquisition of new recruits will be difficult. Unless we go back to a peace time military and withdraw from Afghanistan, etc.
