Senate To Vote Friday on 'Cut, Cap and Balance' Bill
National Journal ^ | 7/21/11 | Dan Friedman

Instead of a Saturday vote on the House-passed “cut, cap and balance” bill, the Senate will vote on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced. The measure is expected to be voted down on a mostly party-line vote.

The expected defeat of the bill will clear the way for Senate action on a compromise measure to raise the debt ceiling. Reid is ready to start floor action on a compromise plan worked out with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., as soon as this weekend. Talks between House Republicans and the White House on a larger deficit reduction package are also continuing.

The bill, which passed Tuesday night 234-190 in the House, would eventually cap federal spending at 19.9 percent of GDP and requires Congress to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment before the debt limit can be raised.

Democrats have denounced the bill in colorful terms. Reid on Thursday called it “one of the worst pieces of legislation U.S. history.”

Didn’t President Clinton pass a Balanced Budget Bill back in the 90’s and unfortunately it was found unconstitutional. Why are we bringing this up again? Different Supreme Court?

Burn up the phone lines on Friday. Reid would not be rushing this vote if he were not nervous of Democratic defections.

Let these senators know they will pay a political price in 2012 and 2014 if they oppose CCB.

Obamacare was the worst bill in US history.

That could be a good debate. I'd throw in the Social Security Act, the Medicare Act and the Federal Reserve Act as contenders. Maybe the 17th ammendment too.

My state’s tea party reps and senator are NOT going to vote for this no matter what Moody’s says. These guys are nothing like the good old boy’s club. They’re not in it to socialize. They’re in it to save our country.

This is quite different. This is a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution which would be sent to the states for ratification and if ratified, would be part of the Constitution. State governors are asking for this to pass and planning for getting it ratified through their states already. Spokesman for this has been Nikki Haley who is almost begging the senate to pass this.
Even if obama would veto the cut and cap, he MUST allow the Balanced Budget Amendment to go to the states. He cannot veto it.

A “bill for raising revenue” cannot originate in the Senate.

I would call REID the worst Legislator along with Pelosi in the history of America.

I sure hope he get a surprise with the house bill passing and put the One on the spot.

This is what likely happened: Boehner wants to get the No votes on record for the 2012 campaign. As part of the deal to eventually caving to Obama, he demanded CCB up for a vote in the senate and then he would renegotiate (cave) with Obama after it gets shot down.

Reid on Thursday called it “one of the worst pieces of legislation U.S. history.”

If this is what Reid thinks, then it must be a good bill.

Just heard the New Yorker Trump may run Independent. He was on a phone interview with Greta, giving kuddos to democrat Wynn, the Las Vegas hotelier who came out against Obama, and then hammering the caving type Republicans.

why do we put up with this !

I do not like being their slave

Im ready to start fighting back

I’d have to add the Immigration Act of 1965. Like the others, we’re paying dearly for that little venture into idealism.
