You never want to get into that "unknown zone" just keep raising the debt ceiling piling on that US Debt (thats what Moody's and China wants.) Then pass some bill about balance budget and spending cuts, that you will never honor.. Rinse and repeat. :-/
3 trillion in cuts with no new taxes seems like a pretty good deal to me. Of course we’d have to hear the edtails but it’s better than others that have been out there.
Depends on how the cuts work. Are they over 10 years and all backloaded or are there actually signifcant cuts next year?
This just shows how powerful Rush is that Boehner makes a beeline right to him to put out the fire.

Boehner calls Rush because his phones are ringing off the hook with protests.
So, finally, our representative government works like it’s supposed to. We vote for representation not smarts. If they had smarts they would do something honorable rather than be politicians.
I read that transcript and it sounds to me as if Boehner is hedging and lying all the way through. In the end, he has not really said anything.
At least this call suggests that he is worried about the consequences of caving—to himself, if not our country.
But basically he tries to take the heat off himself without really saying anything.
You can bet Boehner knows Rush is more than just an “entertainer”. :)

As posted before, if Boehner doesn’t cave and Obama does, Obama loses (liberals get mad).
If Boehner doesn’t cave, and Obama doesn’t either, Obama loses (default, independents permanently walk away).
Hopefully Rush spelled that out with sufficient clarity such that Boehner understands....

In my opinion, that was the scary part of the conversation. Boner heard exactly what Rush said, and yet felt the need to say 'pardon me' to buy time to come up with an answer. Mighty slippery there, Mr. Boner. I hope for your and the country's sake you are not blowing smoke.
Instead of cutting a deal the Republicans should pass a bill mandating that interest payments be made, Social Security payments and Medicare payment be made and Military pay and benefits be paid out of current income. Any leftover income should be paid proportionateley to the various government departments.
Make the Democrats vote against protecting our credit rating, Social security and our military.
