Uh, no, not on your life. In fact the crime is getting worse with flash mobs and all.

Tuskegee is a “food desert” because Wal-Mart was forced to close their store there in the 1980s.

Why?

Because employees were stealing from the store, the city government was ripping off the store, the patrons were engaged in rampant shoplifting.

True story. That’s why Tuskegee is a “food desert.” It is one of the few places in America where Wal-Mart went out of business.

Here’s a revolutionary idea: if these cities like Tuskegee and Detroit didn’t have so much crime, they wouldn’t be “food deserts.”

Hard to believe, I know.

There used to be farm trucks loaded with fresh produce traveling around the city and especially in the poorer areas. There was one white farm couple that stopped their truck near where I worked. I bought their lovely ripe tomatoes and corn regularly. They were run off by these vending law changes.

I wonder how many times that's happened over the years. We have started trying to buy from local/state farmers, and being in central Texas, we are incredibly blessed with a large variety of foods. I'm especially glad we started trying to buy more local/fresh foods, because the main grocery stores in the area are run by a man who helped kill off the sanctuary cities bill that was in front of our legislature.

Another thing I have seen in statistics is that property and other crime levels have dropped in major cities.

Please share a link or two to those statistics. I have a very difficult time believing that's the case.

Could it be because black are proud that one of their guys made it to the Presidency and are less angry and committing fewer crimes?

Oh please -- Have you seen the security videos of flash mobs looting and pillaging stores? The mobs are predominantly, if not exclusively, made up of blacks.

Sounds familiar. It is hard to run a legitimate store when most of your product never gets into the stockroom. Many of these stores have to hire security details and only deliver at certain times of the day. Drug stores in those areas have the same problem.

It isn’t at all worth the effort for a company, that is unless they are being threatened with unions in order to serve a fascist president and his wife.

These people are idiots.

Create a strawman meme and fit a false story to it.

Do the poor have access to groceries where YOU live? They sure do here.

If the liberals have their way they’ll just raise the prices elsewhere to make up for the loss from theft.

Until we get serious obout what can be bought with the FoodStamp Presidents handouts, the poor are gonna get fatter while the rest of us get poorer...

http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/retailers/eligible.htm

The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (the Act) defines eligible food as any food or food product for home consumption and also includes seeds and plants which produce food for consumption by SNAP households.

.........

Soft drinks, candy, cookies, snack crackers, and ice cream are food items and are therefore eligible items

Seafood, steak, and bakery cakes are also food items and are therefore eligible items

Since the current definition of food is a specific part of the Act, any change to this definition would require action by a member of Congress. Several times in the history of SNAP, Congress had considered placing limits on the types of food that could be purchased with program benefits. However, they concluded that designating foods as luxury or non-nutritious would be administratively costly and burdensome.

Energy drinks that have a nutrition facts label are eligible foods

don’t worry, these Wal-Marts will soon close because of enormous losses...

My first thought as well. I hope they are just giving lip service as they will bleed REAL early.

I was in Macon, GA in the 90s when a K-Mart folded because the clerks were ringing up only half the stuff for the "bruthas".

Food deserts exist because of shoplifting, fraud and other petty theft.

Expect to pay more for everything at Wal-Mart.

Check out the comments at the Comicle.

The moral is: never fall in love with a politician. They will break your heart everytime.

I think the so-called progressives and wanna-be progressives are starting to realize this.

Many liberal cities do not allow WalMart to compete with the unionized grocery market. They will not allow WalMart to build superstores.

San Diego does not have one.

Now there is a myth deserving of busted.
Crime in ghettos has gone up since Obama the slaver became chief enforcer on the plantation.
Joblessness is at an all time high in the black community, double the national average.
Abortions are 2 to 3 times higher among black women than white women.
Criminal convictions are nearly 10 times higher as a percentage of population among black men than among white men.
Where precisely, my dear, have conditions improved for blacks since their new master started cracking his whip?

I completely agree with you. I consistently buy my eggs, and produce from farm stands on the side of the road, and I live in Connecticut (imagine that). It isn’t that it is cheaper. It is easier to stop at these places, than a supermarkets, and fresher.

A coworker was once head of produce for a local Kroger in a "rough" part of town. He said the entire three years he worked there, a third of the product walked out the door. They closed the store, finally...and oh, what a row from The Usual Suspects on how Kroger was DISCRIMINATING against their customers.

It is always about culture, and not about race. I don't even need to know, nor do I care, what race or races or creeds or whatever was at the root of that store's failure. But if you are raised in a sub culture that says "stick it to those guys" and turns your head when somebody steals...your culture is broken. If you pastors (like the President's pastor) spend more time whailing about The Great Satan than about thou shalt not steal, your culture is broken. If young men whose only talent is rhyming the word "Ho" get your entertainment money, your culture is broken. And if the hardworking, upstanding, well educated men and women in your culture are looked down upon for not being BLANK enough, your culture is broken.

When the first lady sets down her Coneys and french fries, her BBQ and fried foods, her premium ice cream and all the fine grub we see her enjoying on her dozens of vacations, and when her husband stops smoking...when we see the Imperial Couple exhibit ANY kind of their OWN self control, then I might consider whatever wisdom she hands down. Not before.

Eat your own damn peas, Mr. President. I didn't order them, and I'm not going to pay for the extra free desserts you want to give to your friends, either.

This is so ridiculous! If those stores that used to be in the ‘food deserts’ hadn’t been forced out due to high rates of theft, they’d still be there.

Wal-Mart and any other store that goes in there will likely be forced out for the same reasons. What a waste of money!

Gotta see this for what it is. Walmart is selling it’s souls. As soon as the opportunity comes up, these stores will all go union.

Between the theft, insurance, the Chinese and the unions, walmart will be out of business in 10 years.
