The Betrayal of Michele Bachmann (Who are these chatty but anonymous "former aides"?)
National Review ^ | 07/20/2011 | David French

Among the more disgusting aspects of Washington life and politics is the anonymous attack by “former aides.” About the only thing that can be said for certain about such attacks is that they’re cowardly. As for their veracity? Their anonymity makes them immune to further questioning and renders us incapable of discerning whether they even had the access or first-hand knowledge they claim. All we’re left with are rumors — rumors elevated to national attention because they’re reproduced in reputable outlets.

Last night it was Michele Bachmann’s turn to be eviscerated by “former aides.” The Daily Caller reported (and Drudge picked it up) that she suffers from — wait for it — headaches.

Apparently these former aides (medical doctors, no doubt) believe she’s “incapacitated” by migraines and this makes them “terrified” about her condition if she’s president.

Terrified? What magnificent patriots they are! What a public service they’re performing! If only these brave defenders of the Republic would identify themselves so that we can ask them a question or two. For example, you say that she’s “incapacitated,” but in one of your lurid examples despite her headaches she actually “managed to attend several events in California, including an appearance before a California chapter of the Eagle Forum and a fundraiser in Palm Springs.”

Does “incapacitated” mean what you think it means? Or, if your definition of “incapacitated” includes trips to “urgent care centers” (a fancy name for a walk-up clinic), what do you have to say about this list of presidential ailments? If these aides get the vapors from a migraine or two, I’m glad they’re off her team. After all, presidential politics is tough stuff, and we can’t have excitable, backstabbing aides lurking around — ready to betray their boss for the thrill of a Drudge hit.

Exactly one week ago, I wrote that Michele Bachmann should prepare for the Sarah Palin treatment. As Glenn Stanton noted today, the Left is coming after her with its customary class, accusing her husband of being gay. But now anonymous conservatives have bared their claws. I suppose such betrayals are inevitable in politics, but they are still intolerable.

One thing is certain, however, I prefer a headache-suffering Michele Bachmann to a bike-riding President Obama. And it’s not even close.

I think your gut feeling has a high probability of being correct.

Which shows poor judgement on her part for keeping him around.

>>If you’ve ever seen anyone who has to handle migraines in an ongoing way, you have to know this is a disqualifier.<<

I don’t know if I’d say it’s a “disqualifier,” but Bachmann is high on the list of candidates I’d support, and I certainly want to have this issue aired out well before the primaries get underway.

This is exactly the sort of issue that, if true, and if it blows up in the month before the general election, could result in Obama getting a second term.

The Daily Caller leans right, I believe (I don’t go there much.) They have a scoop, if it’s true. Good for them for running with it. Now we’ll see if Bachmann can address the issue suitably enough to remove it as an issue.

To those wailing and moaning over this: Why would you NOT want to know this now, if it’s true? And if it’s garbage, why would you also not want to know it now, and have it addressed? (I’d bet a lot of money, for instance, that she does have these episodes; the question is how serious (debilitating) are they?)

These Bachmann koolaid drinkers have proven to be no better than those who drank the Obama koolaid. Obama's thin resume was enough and his history didn't matter. Look where that got the democrats.

///
i was a BACHMANN supporter until a month ago.
of all the declared candidates, she was my FIRST choice.

i have not made any personal remarks about anyone.
and i certainly am not a paid supporter of Palin’s from her home state.

i have commented on specific things that Bachmann herself has said. and specific documents facts, like her own tax returns, that prove what she said was not true.

Bachmann has hidden many things, that she could have put out herself, with her own postive spin. instead, she let them be found out. poor tactics at best.

instead of addressing my specific honest concerns, about Bachmanns OWN words contradicting her OWN records, and her hiding medicial problems (unlike Cain. and she still won’t answer if she’s been hosptialized for this.),
you simply attack me as a “Palin supporter”.

Palin might not run. If she doesn’t, i would have voted for Bachmann. Now, I’ll probably vote for Cain.

and even NOW, i am being fair, UNLIKE YOU, as i recently said:
Elendur to ejdrapes
Bachmann voted AGAINST the the Cut and Cap bill,
after pledging she would.
“Bachmann signs Cut, Cap, and Balance pledge, “

I praise her for this!!!!!!!!!

because she said:
“While I embrace the principles of Cut, Cap and Balance, the motion does not go far enough in fundamentally restructuring the way Washington spends taxpayer dollars,”

She is correct. we need need to stop putting our children more in debt, NOW. Not 5 or 10 years from now.

And, I have already praised Bachmann repeatedly, for her COURAGEOUS stance against the Pigford black farmers settlement.
(i don’t know of ANY other declared candidates who have.)

when i vote, i like to know all i can, both good AND bad, so i am an INFORMED voter, as our Founding Fathers wished.
