Was Jim DeMint’s pledge tied in any way to the debt ceiling? According to Ron Paul this vote sanctions an increase in the debt ceiling. If that’s the case I don’t think there is anything inconsistent with supporting DeMint’s pledge and voting against this legislation.

It *IS* inconsistent.
The whole *POINT* of cut, cap and balance is to say “here is what we demand in order to raise the debt ceiling.”

The folks who sign the pledge and vote “no” when the pledge is put on the floor are really not getting the point.

Unless Bachmann and the no voters have an alternative plan to raise the debt ceiling and/or end the deficit tomorrow, they are all hat and no cattle.
