The 234-190 vote sends the "cut, cap and balance" plan to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it has virtually no chance of passing.

OT......did you read my reply to you re Lekvar?
I really like Palin; for many different reasons and I'm probably the last person most would imagine to be a Palin supporter.
I was once open to Bachmann, but she has just about completely turned me off her; especially lately.
That’s the way it’s supposed to work; however, all of them are talking about BILLS, which Obama would veto. They’re all scared of their own shadows and some remember what Clinton and the MSM did to Gingrich and the GOPers and they held BOTH Houses back then, which they don’t now.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.................
Oh, are YOU going to be teaching yourself things, now? How lovely for you!
My understanding of getting a money bill through Congress is that it first must pass the House.
That is significant. Nothing moves forward unless SOMETHING first passes the House. At that point, the House-passed bill goes to the Senate where it is debated AND AMENDED and voted on.
Since the Senate can amend the House bill, the 2 sides must get together at a conference committee to iron out their differences over the final changed bill that must again be approved by both House & Senate before it is sent to the president for signature.
That is the process.
The House has taken a significant first step by doing SOMETHING. The Senate can change what the House did by amendment. Both get to vote again on any changes made in conference. The president then gets to sign or veto the agreed-upon bill.
The media is stupidly harping about the bill’s DOA status with the president. Even the POTUS doesn’t know what the final version might look like. Nor do we.
If it is DOA as they claim, then the default is inevitable. This is the bill that the Senate and Obama are going to have to deal with. If there is an agreement and Obama vetoes it, then the government will shut down and all hands will point to Obama.
I frankly don't expect the Congress to have passed any bill before the August 2nd deadline. And i don't think we will have any government shut down until at least mid September.
Everyone is posturing. The democrats, however, are demagoguing everything. They have no plan, they just want to make the Republicans look like villains.
I'm not too optimistic that this country is going to survive this decade.
Germany is "socialist", but at least it isn't stupid about their socialism. They do manage to see fiscal sense on occasion.
America doesn't. America actually believes it can run a 44% deficit per year and continue that indefinitely. Can you indefinitely spend $1000 dollars a week on an income of $600 a week with the remainder put on credit cards?
At the end of just year 1, your credit card debt will be roughly 21,000 dollars.
Every single person I know or have ever met would consider a family budget plan like that to be insanity.
And rightly so.....as this, her latest vote “Present” vindicates. It’s great that she has the backbone to vote NO when necessary; but to vote NO at the wrong time or for the wrong reason indicates “plenty of backbone” but insufficient intellect, perhaps.
The cherry on top for me, though, was her hiring Ed Rollins and siccing him on Sarah when her back was turned. Sarah was big about it and didn’t call Bachmann out on it, to her credit; but she’s still an untrustworthy backstabber to me! Wanna’ go after Obluffer? Have at it. But don’t backstab someone WHO CAMPAIGNED FOR YOU and helped assure your most recent victory!
I'm wondering if it would pass in the house too. Add the # of R's who would vote no due to taxes...and the number of D's who would vote no due to spending cuts together...and it would probably be defeated.
Go away tiresome person.
Come 2013, when everything else kicks in from 0bamacare to the sun-setting of the Bush tax cuts...
We are being set up to go into a depression.
The fix is in.
We ALL knew it - even those who pretended to hold out hope.
The Republicans said last week that they would float a bill that would never pass.
Obama said the Republicans would play games - float some crap - he wouldnt support. Said it was all a political game - totally dismissed the reporters on the idea that ANYBODY other than HIMSELF would win this game.
He said - I WILL WIN.
All of us knew the Republicans would cave. I have yet to see anything online - any forum - that thought otherwise.
Republicans always cave.
Sure - they will pretend to snort and stomp their feet. They will pretend that they TRIED - OH WE TRIED SO HARD to get something through. But Obama just wouldnt let us do the right thing.
SOME will fall for this. SOME.
Most will roll their eyes in America and move on.
The markets wont crash. The world will continue to go down the path of deeper and deeper debt.
Keep in mind that EVERYTHING being said right now - as far as spending cuts and otherwise - is in a perfect world. Where no new wars form. Without the ungodly costs of OBAMACARE - fake numbers which will go MUCH MUCH higher.
No war with Iran. No new wars in the Middle East. Economy growing. Blah blah blah
How many (please raise your hands) think that the coming 5-10 year period is not going to bring major drama on the world stage?
Anyone? Anyone?
We are royally screwed. We ALLOW the Republicans to get away with this. We ALLOW Obama to get away with this.
Obamas second term - which now seems likely - will bring even more dramatic change. Just look at what he did over the last 2 1/2 years.
Republicans have yet to present a viable candidate. Sarah Palin is an unlikely candidate. Sureeeeee - there are those among the group that will vote for her. But is there enough people who will buy into her philosophy?
Obama has the fix and the fix is in.
Nobody is trying to stop him. The phone lines are not shut down (remember when they tried to pass the Dream Act) - holy cow - the phone lines never stopped ringing. The country was fixated on stopping it.
Most people I talk with have no clue as to what the debt ceiling even is.
I think the party is over. We are quickly approaching the no return point.
Prove me wrong
This dog and cheap pony show, over the last few weeks, was predictable. Some among us predicted it all along. Many of us predicted it all along. Dismissed as cynical.
Cynical may be how we will all feel in a few short years.
I had a row of assorted trees next to the house (I live on a farm). One year one of them was loaded with plums. We ate a lot, made a lot of jelly and I thought I'd dry some up and make lekvar. After surfing for what it envolved I decided against it.
Thanks for the offer.
What was cut and run Paul’s excuse? Did he not have enough time to put in a couple dozen ear marks?
We didn’t have fiddles until the ~16th century.
234/190? ELEVEN didn’t vote?
I wonder why Rohrabacher voted no...
It’s coming down to Herman Cain or, if he runs, Perry.
Only those two have the persuasive yet appealing type of personality to do the job.
I like Bachmann, but I am beginning to think she doesn’t have the stones.
Palin might have the ability to persuade, but I doubt she’ll run at this point.
Great comments by Michelle Bachmann in explaining her view on the bill. I agree. The repeal & defunding of 0dumboCare should have been front & center part of this bill. The other thing that should have been front & center are the ACTUAL CUTS IN SPENDING for 2012....not some projected 10 year deficit reduction. How much will 2012 be cut along with 0dumboCare? These are what should have been included in this bill!
You fell for her excuse?
I didn’t
Lame - at best - stunt
