Obama praises 'Gang of Six' plan

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Time running short to raise the government's borrowing limit, President Barack Obama on Tuesday hailed a plan by a bipartisan senators' group on deficit reduction as the kind of "balanced approach" the nation is looking for. He said it's time for Congress as a whole to rally around such a proposal.

"We don't have any more time to engage in symbolic gestures, we don't have any more time to posture. It's time to get down to the business of actually solving this problem," the president said.

Obama spoke even as House Republicans pushed toward a vote on legislation that would require trillions in spending cuts and a balanced-budget constitutional amendment in exchange for an increase in the debt ceiling. That plan is unlikely to get through the Senate, and Obama has said he would veto it.

Facing an Aug. 2 deadline to raise the debt limit, Obama said he would call House Speaker John Boehner after the vote to invited him and other leaders back to the White House for meetings in coming days.

These career politicians are so self-serving. It will take an extraordinary amount of convincing for me to trust any of them. Even those that are sent there with good intentions sell out after a short period of time once they experience the power and perks of their office. Political party affiliations are imaginary labels that are being used to take advantage of established organizations, which also have become corrupt. Our nation is in serious jeopardy due to the malfeasance of these life-long politicians!

Any, and I mean ANY, Republican that votes for this is an open enemy of the American people...

About 90% of the U.S. Senate Exchange... they have been bailing out their buddies on Wall Street with the public debt.

It is not that stocks are trading higher, the dollar is worth less with Bernanke printing money...

From what Rand Paul said on Hannity this afternoon, the Gang of Six scheme has no legislative form and is so complicated one may not be available in time to meet the deadline.

Unbelievable. What a fubar. We need to term limit ever last red state Senate Republican in 2012 and 2014 except for Sen. Sessions. Then clean out the Senate chambers and fumigate!
