Speaking this morning to the Texas Municipal Police Association in Austin, Gov. Rick Perry returned to one of his favorite subjects over the last few years, saying the Obama administration has inappropriately handled security issues on the Texas-Mexico border.
Perry, who told the Des Moines Register in recent days that God may be calling him to run for president, has long said Washington has not deployed enough manpower to the Texas-Mexico border. He repeated that criticism this morning, saying he wants 3,000 Border Patrol agents along the border in Texas and 1,000 troops from the National Guard. He said the administrations decision to send 286 troops last year was grossly inadequate.
The federal government continues to turn a blind eye to this problem, Perry said.
Last August, when President Barack Obama came to Austin for a fundraiser, Perry met him at the airport and tried to hand him a letter asking for National Guard troops. (He gave the letter to an Obama aide.) Perry later bragged in a re-election commercial that he had confronted Obama, showing footage of their brief encounter.
Last year, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano sent Perry a letter saying the Border Patrol was better staffed than at any time in its history, having increased from about 10,000 agents in 2004 to more than 20,000 in 2010.

True, 2012 is getting easier for them with each passing day of inaction by the GOP.
***Perry could always engage in war with Mexico.***
Bad move! They already have a potential army of over 5 million behind our lines!
And like all RINOs and the DNC, it is always: Blame everyone else.
Those Texas Ranger Recon Teams....didn’t just stay in Texas... ;o)

No kidding. Talkin tough about the border is the EASY-PART, ain’t it? He leaves behind the legacy of a sanctuary state & instate tuition rates + grants to illegal alien demanders and ingrates.
There is a lawsuit being put together by IRCOT the law is really clear on this but more plaintiffs are needed to overturn Gov. Perry’s shenanigans on this.
1) must have oil and gas revenues in Texas and pay taxes on this
2) would not approve of illegal alien tuition breaks over American-citizen students.
Diogenesis...I have an idea...your name should be “Wedge”.. “simplest tool known to man”....same bullshit..day after day..nothing ever new....just the same old smelly used lies...again and again. Yes, “Wedge”...”you da man”!
"Why doesn't Perry MANDATE the vaccine, Gardasil,
by his Executive Order upon incoming illegal aliens
instead just giving them freebies?"
Not so "cheap" with a lot of voters.
"The only way that you can be eligible for that in-state tuition is if you are in the process of getting your citizenship," Perry said.
Since you posted an article and several comments that portray Perry as tough on immigration would you like to comment on the above quote and the law he signed that it references?
EternalVigilance probably meant “cheap political points”
to conservatives or real Americans since ignoring
the ISSUES (mandated Gardasil and open borders for years)
are the REAL POINTS (and avoided by PerryBOTs).
Sorry, I missed this on first reading through the thread.
The TX Legislature meets for 140 days every 2 years. Perry called them back into a special session to address "Sanctuary Cities. The Senate did a "take it or leave it bill" and left it on the House's desk and adjourned. The House leadership was pissed at the Senate's posture and they laughed at the representative pushing it in the House and adjourned too. There was much jockeying going on (political musical chair considerations) for the next elections, going on in the TX legislature.

However! There is more than one way to skin a cat.
July 4, 2011 [Texas] Rule requiring drivers to prove citizenship now law ..."As the House early last month debated a must-pass finance bill, one member slipped in language that puts into law a controversial Texas Department of Public Safety policy requiring driver's license applicants to show they're in the country legally.
The amendment, added by Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, to the education funding bill legislators needed to balance the state budget had originally been included in Senate Bill 9, the so-called "sanctuary cities" bill that failed in the special session. It also had appeared in an omnibus homeland security bill by Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, that died in the regular session.
The new law approved last Tuesday makes some tweaks to a 2008 DPS policy that prevents illegal immigrants from getting a driver's license and created a special license for temporary visitors. The rules require Texans applying for or renewing their license to show they are citizens or are in the country legally.
By putting it into law the state potentially undermines an ongoing lawsuit that argues DPS doesn't have authority to check legal status."....
I look at what they DO, and DON’T DO, throughout their career, not just at what they SAY during a campaign.
And, because I have done that, I simply don’t trust Rick Perry on border security or illegal immigration.
kettle, meet pot. / pot, meet kettle.
That’s okay. Just saw your update.
Perhaps the others will upload the REAL DEAL about the TTC.
