Well, well, well. As Mondays news cycle gets into full gear, were starting to see exactly what Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi are cooking up for the American public pretend spending cuts and very real tax increases.
It is like the GOP learned nothing from No Child Left Behind. In NCLB, the GOP let liberals like Teddy Kennedy write the legislation and when the legislations very foreseeable outcomes appeared, the GOP got the blame for the disaster the law wrought on the public school system.
And now were going to get a new deficit commission that is actually just going to raise taxes.
How do we know they are going to raise taxes?
Well, whatever the commission comes up with, its going to be deemed filibuster proof only a simple majority will have to vote for it in the Senate. Oh, and it will not be subject to any amendments in its recommendations.
With Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) already on board tax increases and with Tom Coburn proposing $1 trillion in tax increases today, we see where this is headed. But wait . . . theres more.Keith Hennessey has a breakdown of the budget negotiations, much of which will be incorporated into McConnells Pontius Pilate Act.
How so?
Well, most media reports are now saying that the Pontius Pilate Act will include the $1.5 trillion in cuts from the Biden led negotiations. What are those cuts? You can read Keith Hennessey yourself or just read this summarization from a friend of mine:
Only in Washington are spending increases called spending cuts. They will actually grow discretionary spending at 2/3 rate of inflation (spending increase) but call it $1 trillion in cuts below the baseline of full inflation. About $200 billion come from cuts to health care providers, something we stop every year with the doc fix not sure how theyll keep this promise. And another $165 billion come from increases in government fees (some call tax increases), not spending cuts. So at the end of the day, we are left with a $2 billion FY2012 cut, and $55 billion in promised actual spending cuts through yet unspecified policy changes. A whopping $57 billion in cuts over a decade, or less than $6 billion a year.
Oh the games they play.
If true, no regaining the Senate in 2012.
Everyone ignored the first one. What makes anyone think this won’t be ignored as well?
If they vote for this mess, even if they did regain the Senate... who would notice?
This has to be stopped. It’s disgusting.
And this after deriding the Tea Party and defending Nancy Pelosi as a nice person. WTF. Coburn is totally unreliable.
Shorter terms for senators. They get too insulated, and are not accountable to us unless they propose legislation in the last two years of their term.
If we want to regain control of our senators, that’s one way to do it.
“Everyone ignored the first one. What makes anyone think this wont be ignored as well?”
—This part:
“Well, whatever the commission comes up with, its going to be deemed filibuster proof only a simple majority will have to vote for it in the Senate. Oh, and it will not be subject to any amendments in its recommendations.”
It won’t get through congress.
“Under the plan, Obama would be able to raise the debt ceiling three times over the next year for a total of $2.5 trillion. Congress could also vote on a resolution of disapproval each time, assigning blame to Obama for increasing the nations debt.”
LOL!!! UNBELIEVABLE! We will let you raise it Obongo, 3 times in fact, BUT we get blame you and call you a bad boy.
They are all effing nuts.
Wasn’t Boner in on the last cut scam - it’s billions! (well maybe a few million, later, down the road, someday....)
I think we can safely say if this happens it’s the end of the Republican Party-and likely the country as well.
Not only not regaining the Senate, a GOOD chance of losing the House and letting the halfrican Marxist homo Muslim have full reign to complete his coup by 2016.
I STILL can't fathom the fact that 150 billion/year for 10 years is considered a major cut in spending....and ALREADY we have some who are promoting another trillion in spending? (you KNOW that all taxes collected WILL be spent)
What are these people smoking?
Shorter terms for senators. They get too insulated, and are not accountable to us

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! It should not be a lifetime career. 8 years, that’s it.. and NO lifetime pension. Who else gets their full salary for the rest of their life? Ridiculous! Especially when WE have to pay for it. This country is looking more and more ridiculous each day.
How can this be??They are trying to get around Demint claiming he will do everything possible to stop this bill.
Get on the phone to Demint and tell him to use:
the hold, the filibuster, and withholding unanimous consent.
BUT we get to blame you and call you a bad boy.
They should not vote for this or anything else until they have final figures from CBO.
