Moo.
“Oh well, so you already know the end of the story?”
Not at all. But are there people who have done bad things? yup. Do we know who they all are and what & how many bad things they’ve done to whom? Nope
I am frankly staggered by the scale of the fall-out so far. Sounds like there could have been hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of err extra-curricular payments made to the police by News International over the years. Personal favourite was the Green Book (?), containing the contact details of senior members of the Royal Family.
What boggles my mind personally is that if it had been a Muslim behind all this then we’d have had MI5 / MI6 etc. swinging straight into action - yet because it’s journalists working for NI that’s apparently not a problem?!?
Like an average liberal with an average little cheap “moral” you are used to speak for the “majority”.
You have the arrogance to speak for “the majority” assuming, consciously or confusely, that the majority is always right(in art,science,philosophy,religion...).
Speak in your name for your little person please.
I maintain that there is no justice without trial searching truth. You feign to ignore that there are several persons who are accused in that affair and not only Mc Mullen who also need a trial.
Quick popular “justice” made by politicians and MSM...?
You seem to be ready for tyrany
Moo.
The FBI is already investigating NewsCorp over this, and Dick(less) Durban was calling for a Congressional investigation of Fox as well. That's why we should care.
The NOTW has hacked the phones of a child murder victim, the phones of dead British soldiers and their families, the victims and families of a terrorist atrocity.
It impeded the investigation of the murder of a child for journalistic gain. It went so far as to tamper with evidence, which not only made the parents lives (already in turmoil), but could have meant that the killer was never caught or if caught walked free. What the NOTW did in that case (Milly Dowler) is beyond comprehension.
That is not a liberal-conservative issue.
That is just a issue that should horrify anyone with a soul.
Stop talking sense, scotsman - instead, my bovine brother, join me in saying simply ‘moo’ in response to our (faux-) french colleague’s amusing attempts to trollishly provoke.
Brooks has been under arrest for hours now, and the head of the Met has just resigned. Unbelievable. And our Prime Minister is very bravely taking full control of the situation... by staying in South Africa.

That pretty much sums it up, and it is disgusting thats so many conservatives in America will defend phone hacking and the obstruction of a murder investigation.
“The FBI is already investigating NewsCorp over this, and Dick(less) Durban was calling for a Congressional investigation of Fox as well. That’s why we should care.”
Actually, it was Peter King (R) NY who first called for the FBI to investigate allegations that News Corp. staff hacked voice mails of 9/11 victims.
We will se where that investigation leads and if such hacking took place, those involved need to be send to prison.
This is ALSO a liberal-conservative issue, like it or not.
Only reprehensible facts must be judged for what they are.
Hacking is shamefully a very common wide spread practice. In that case it’s a particular odious kind of hacking which is in accusation
I support Fox News and Murdoch. All the Brit newspapers do this hacking stuff

None of this is to excuse the behaviour of the hackers at the NoW and their enablers. But its an open secret that phone hacking is rife among British tabloids, and the Guardian and BBC axis have chosen to play down this fact in their single-minded pursuit of Murdoch and the NoW. Those other tabloids have been happy to play along, although with at least one and perhaps more public inquires on the way, they may yet regret helping to open this particular can of worms.
Few will mourn the passing of the NoW beyond its loyal band of sleaze-addicted readers. But at the same time, the manner in which a left-wing newspaper has been able to collude with the state-funded broadcaster to lead an attack an organization whose power and political alignment they resented should be deeply troubling.
No way !
I don’t think anyone who calls himself conservative defends what you say.
But,on the contrary, some people, here and there, are steadily confusing(deliberatly or not?) different domains of behaviour haking, obstruction to investigation in a murder case, and freedom of information,of speech and thought...
I think that some people are deliberatly keeping up the confusion.
Last but not least i think that BBC, CNN,....should be sued for fake journalism and deliberate and repeated disinformation, personnal smear attacks on individuals for political goals(remember for instance S.Palin...)and also conflict of interests...
It should have been done many years ago
True. We need to get to the bottom of the truth.
Looks like Weird Al Yankovic in drag.
I thought all the scandal sheets, not just Murdoch’s, used the same cell phone tactics.
All true, but all those ACTUALLY INVOLVED were arrested and/or fired years ago.
I've been following this closely on BBC for the last couple of weeks
What we are seeing now is a witch hunt against a conservative media outlet by leftist media in league with leftist government in England and soon in the USA, a witch hunt that is resulting in thousands of INNOCENT people losing their jobs, and now the leftists are going the extra mile and arresting people that have already been deemed not to be responsible by investigators.
Expect to see the marxists at the US DOJ go after Fox News next.
Rebekah Brooks has told News International staff that it is ‘inconceivable’ she knew about phone hacking in the Milly Dowler case. 7/5/11
Dear All,
When I wrote to you last week updating you on a number of business issues I did not anticipate having to do so again so soon.
However, I wanted to address the company as a matter of urgency in light of the new claims against the News of the World.
We were all appalled and shocked when we heard about these allegations yesterday.
I have to tell you that I am sickened that these events are alleged to have happened.
Not just because I was editor of the News of the World at the time, but if the accusations are true, the devastating effect on Milly Dowler’s family is unforgivable.
Our first priority must be to establish the full facts behind these claims. I have written to Mr and Mrs Dowler this morning to assure them News International will vigorously pursue the truth and that they will be the first to be informed of the outcome of our investigation.
Our lawyers have also written to their solicitor Mark Lewis to ask him to show us any of the evidence he has so we can swiftly take the appropriate action.
At the moment we only know what we have read.
Since 2006, when the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) seized the documentation from the private investigator Glen [sic] Mulcaire, News International has had no visibility on the evidence available.
The process of discovery is complicated. The MPS first present relevant documents to potential victims. We only see the evidence much later during the legal process.
This morning, in our regular Operation Weeting meeting, we have offered the MPS our full co-operation to establish the veracity of these fresh allegations.
I have also written to the chief constable of Surrey police. Although their nine year investigation is now complete, I want to offer our co-operation should they intend to discuss this matter with us.
I am determined that News International does everything it can to co-operate fully and pro-actively with the MPS, as we have been doing for some time, to verify the facts so we can respond in a robust and proper way.
It is almost too horrific to believe that a professional journalist or even a freelance inquiry agent working on behalf of a member of the News of the World staff could behave in this way.
If the allegations are proved to be true then I can promise the strongest possible action will be taken as this company will not tolerate such disgraceful behaviour.
I hope that you all realise it is inconceivable that I knew or worse, sanctioned these appalling allegations.
I am proud of the many successful newspaper campaigns at the Sun and the News of the World under my editorship.
In particular, the 10-year fight for Sarah’s Law is especially personal to me.
The battle for better protection of children from paedophiles and better rights for the families and the victims of these crimes defined my editorships.
Although these difficult times will continue for many months ahead, I want you to know that News International will pursue the facts with vigour and integrity.
I am aware of the speculation about my position. Therefore it is important you all know that as chief executive, I am determined to lead the company to ensure we do the right thing and resolve these serious issues.
We will face up to the mistakes and wrongdoing of the past and we will do our utmost to see that justice is done and those culpable will be punished.
In January 2003, Andy Coulson took over as editor of the News of the World following the move of editor Rebekah Brooks (then Rebekah Wade) to sister paper The Sun. Brooks had been News of the World editor since May 2000, during which time allegations would later surface that the tabloid accessed the voicemail of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler. Later in 2003 Brooks and Coulson appeared before a parliamentary committee, where Brooks admitted to paying police for information.[1]
In August 2006, Clive Goodman, royal editor at the News of the World, and his associates Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator, and Davy Craig, editor of the Weekly News, were arrested over allegations of phone hacking made by the British Royal Family in 2005. Goodman and Mulcaire were subsequently charged; they pleaded guilty and were imprisoned on 26 January 2007 for four and six months, respectively. The paper’s editor Andy Coulson resigned while insisting that he had no knowledge of any illegal activities.[3] In March of that year, a senior aide to Rupert Murdoch told a parliamentary committee that a “rigorous internal investigation” found no evidence of widespread hacking at the News of the World; two months later the Press Complaints Commission exonerated the paper in a report on phone hacking.[1]
In 2009 and 2010, further revelations emerged regarding the extent of the phone hacking and the number of News of the World employees who may have been aware of the practices. By March 2010, the paper had spent over £2 million settling court cases with victims of phone hacking. In July 2009,[4] The Guardian made a series[5] of allegations of wider phone hacking activities at the News of the World newspaper, that were aimed at other individuals, including television presenter Chris Tarrant.
This led to several prominent figures who were covertly snooped upon bringing legal action against the News of the World’s owner and Mulcaire. Amongst those who began legal action were Tarrant, football agent Sky Andrew, actors Sienna Miller and Steve Coogan, and sports presenter Andy Gray
