The much awaited figures for Michele Bachmanns fundraising in the second quarter of the fiscal year reported today did nothing to burnish her image as the up and coming Republican. Her total of $2 million raised in the last three months plus two million more shifted from her congressional campaign account illustrated that for all of the progress her candidacy has made in the last several weeks, she seems to lack the infrastructure and staff work that more established hopefuls have already put into place. The high expectations her poll figures have produced means pulling in only $2 million has to be considered something of a disappointment.
Bachmanns excuses for this showing will center on the fact that at the start of the quarter she barely had a campaign, let alone the sort of organization that would allow her to rake in the big bucks. Her Internet fundraising operation, key to a grass roots populist candidacy such as hers, so far lacks the sophistication and promotional efforts needed for her to harness the energy of enthusiastic Tea Party and conservative Christian backers.
If she can manage to put together a better online effort in the coming months, then she may be able to start raising the big bucks from a broad base of small contributors that could help put the nomination within reach. But if she fails to do so, this shortfall will put a brake on both her momentum and her ability to compete with the cash-rich Mitt Romney.
Having lifted herself from the second tier to leading alternative to the frontrunner in just a few weeks, Bachmann no longer has the ability to fly below the radar. The congresswomans fast start has set high expectations that require her to do more than just skate by. If Bachmanns performance in the Iowa straw poll in August or the next fundraising report again falls short of what we believe a first-tier candidate must do, her hopes will suffer.
the money isn’t rolling in because it’s all waiting for Sarah to announce.
Bottom line, yes. (Pun intended)
This just proves my point that much of Bachmann`s support comes from MSM/Rep est. She is only a tool for them, and I guess maybe Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchel etc are not sending anymore money?
The polls that show MB doing so well do not include Gov Palin, for the most part. And the ones that show her doing really really well are only push polling by MSM/Rep Est.
If her polls are so high, Where is the money?
We heard a report last week that large donors are not willing to open up their wallets for MB or Romney, this seems to vindicate that report.
Maybe the Obama supporters stopped contributing.
You got er!
How much are you being paid to character assassinate Michele Bachmann with baseless lies and who’s paying you? Soros?
That’s an interesting take.
Regardless, the number (which CBS News published as $4 Million, failing to mention the $2 Million transfer of funds) is very weak.
You mean character assassination like MB via Ed Rollins? I have been saying for weeks now that MSM/Rep est pollsters/media are pushing Bachmann only out of their hatred/fear of Gov Palin.
While she has some real support, much of it is manufactured by MSM, this is some of the proof.
You betcha ;>)
I think the big money is just waiting to see what shakes out, if Sarah runs, etc.
:-)
The MSM hate both Palin and Bachmann.
You are an insincere troll. Answer the question, who’s paying you?
I believe the MSM has been bashing Bachmann and promoting Palin. She is their real fave. They can’t wait. Hence the layout in Newsweak.
Bull crap. She had an extended campaign rollout (exploratory committee, debate announcement of papers to be filed, campaign announcement) for the express purpose of generating excitment and dollars. Epic fail.
*snort* thing is, you know what I say is true. LOL
Hope all is well at the Shark pond;^)
Believe in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy as well???
I think they need each other. There are at least 7 RINOs in the race running completely without scrutiny and neither Bachmann or Palin can beat the entire field alone.
No matter how highly we think of our preferred candidate, an honest man must consider the possibility that they don’t have what it takes to win alone.
