Citing her Catholic Faith, Centi will no longer be marrying same-sex couples when the Marriage Equality Law takes effect July 24.

God bless her! She is the 2nd NY Town Clerk to quit over gay marriage.

RE: submitted a letter of resignation saying her religious beliefs prevent her from marrying gay couples.

Now wait a minute... I thought the NY Law just passed had a religious conscience exemption?

Unless... the law is interpreted differently or means something different, she should not be compelled to marry the gay couple and that couple should find a clerk with no such religious convictions.

Just saying...

She is the latest government official to resign in protest of the marriage equality law.

This was forced on the people of NY. No one got to vote, and it's their state.
This is the sort of thing that happens when government gets too powerful and the powerful can be bought with a large amount of campaign cash.

I've taught my kids to turn their heads away when they see homosexuals. It's not something they want imprinted in their memories.

That’s at least two so far. More to follow - many, many more.

Of course, homosexual “marriage” only affects the two people involved; no one else. /sarc

Reached by phone Thursday morning, Town Supervisor Ken Runion told CBS 6 news, “I was surprised because we all take the oath of civil service and promise to follow the law. .

This woman didn’t quit.

Read the third paragraph/sentence.

I don’t understand all the adulation.

This woman has moral courage. Exactly what this country needs. People who claim to be conservative or constitutionalists need to follow in her footsteps.

we have to follow the law

No we don't. A government that edicts laws against natural justice only makes itself an outlaw.
