Obama walks abruptly out of 'tense' White House debt meeting, Cantor says

The fourth consecutive day of debt meetings between President Barack Obama and congressional leaders from both parties ceased abruptly with Obama walking out of Wednesday's talks, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said.

Cantor told FOX News Channel that the approximately two-hour meeting at the White House Wednesday "ended with president abruptly walking out of the meeting."

He said Obama shoved back from the desk and said "we'll see you tomorrow."

"We are very far apart right now," Cantor told FOX, adding, "The progress we made seems to have been erased now." "He [Obama] became very agitated. Said 'Ronald Reagan wouldn't sit here. You either have to compromise on the dollar figure or the grand bargain' ... He said 'don't call my bluff. I'm going to the American people on this.'"

A Republican aide described Wednesday's gathering to FOX as the "most tense of the week."

But a senior Democratic source disputed Cantor's account of meeting, telling FOX that the president had instead shut down Cantor's continual interruptions about a possible short-term deal.

"Obama was concluding the meeting, giving the closing remarks and talking about meeting tomorrow," the source said.

"Cantor interrupted him and raised for the third time doing a short-term [after it had already been addressed twice], and Obama shut him down. Cantor was playing the role he's been playing throughout this whole thing -- being not productive."

When asked if they had made progress in the last round of negotiations, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said "no," according to Politico.

The Treasury Department has said if a deal is not reached by Aug. 2, the US would default on its debt. Obama has said such a move could pull the US back into a recession.

We are in a depression now, so by not raising the debt limit the economy will improve.

That’s stoopid.

The 1st black President would have sat there.

Guess the 2nd black President is a defective copy.

Cantor should just bring a briefcase full of granola bars and a potty pot and camp out at the meeting room. Let Obama kick him out. That will demonstrate to the public in a graphic way who is refusing to settle down and hammer it out.

You know, I just thought of something.

I live on one of California’s top 10 golf courses and I have golfed exactly twice in the 8 years I have lived there.

I could walk to the 1st tee.

He said 'don't call my bluff. I'm going to the American people on this.'"
So he admits he is bluffing.

Hey Barry, get caught bluffing, you lose.

""Gotta get it done by Friday or the world will end." Bull****! I'm tired of this lying commie crap."

He must be reading the democrapic game plan on 'how to bully and put the fear into the opposition' by acting as though you are highly connected to the mob.

I'm surprised he didn't make any references to dead horses, or at least toss in a threat telling the seniors if they don't vote for him, funding for meals on wheels will be at risk.

Walks out of the meeting? Who does he think he is? A Wisconsin Senator? A Texan Representative? What is it with these ‘rats who run away from meetings?

Obama tried to pull a RR moment (when RR had walk out on talks with the USSR about unrealistic nuclear demands)...the biggest problem for Obama will be that he has cast Americans as the evil empire and himself as the willing negotiator. Obamas only hope for reelection now is to split the republican vote so that he can win...which just might happen given the fractionous attitudes of conservatives and the MSMs total dedication to his cause.

The GOP should say see ya and just propose cuts and let the chips fall where they may and stop these nonsense meetings.

You are correct, we are still in a recession, actually if not technically, and the fool in the WH knows this. What he is doing now is deliberately sabotaging the talks so there will be no agreement. When and if that happens he and his media pals will pounce on that and blame the “slide back into recession” on the stubborn Republicans.

They need tom hang tough. With 200 billion in tax revenue available there is ample money available to pay the interest on the debt, SS, Medicare, and the the military which all together need about 105 billion. After that they can pick and choose which programs get what.

Any decision to not pay SS or Medicare is strictly a political one and this is the message which needs to get out.

[Obama} 'don't call my bluff. I'm going to the American people on this.'"

So he's knows he's lying and now will appeal to democratic mass psychology to make financial decisions.

Reads like lack of fiduciary responsibilty to me.

“This tends to support a theory of mine: that Obama has a short attention span, or possibly ADD.”

Naawww......
Obama has never worked his entire life. He is a Chicago machine goon. He fully expects to snap his fingers and everyone do what he says. It’s been that way his whole life. And he’s gotten away with telling whoppers about everything.
He is the Post Turtle!

When you read the serious work on the subject of a psychopath/sociopath, you find that you cannot negotiate with one. They have to win at all costs.

They will do or say anything to win, even if it is not in their best interest.

They take contradictory positions, sometimes within the same sentence. This creates the absurdity of a negotiator dealing with a sociopath being damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

They do not have a conscience so they lie endlessly and effortlessly.

Obama admitted yesterday he will not budge, even if it destroys his presidency.

There were several leaders who thought they had agreements with Hitler, only to find themselves being bombed by the Luftwaffe shortly thereafter.

Republicans in the House should pass a bill that mandates debt servicing, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the military and military retirees are paid out of monthly tax receipts. If the Senate Donkeys and Obama won't sign it, demand to know what payments he's going to cut or eliminate and to whom. Issue a subpoena to Obama’s boys to disclose where the money collected after 2 August is going and who made those decisions. Then the Republicans should crucify the Donkeys in the MSM. Have the guts and spine and attack, attack, attack, attack.
