Former House member Dave Obey is among Democrats accusing Republicans of gerrymandering while redistricting Congressional and state legislative districts.
At a morning press conference, Obey said each Congressional District is supposed to be about 710,873 people under the census. He said a small adjustment could be made to be in compliance but the GOP plan unnecessarily disrupts hundreds of thousands of additional residents.
State Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller said people in Kenosha County except city of Kenosha residents would be disenfranchised. He claimed county residents have not cast a ballot for a state Senate race since 2008 and under the proposed map would not do so again until 2014.
Obey said the GOP map would make it harder for challengers his former district. Obey said traditionally a 7th Congressional District candidate spends money on ads in Wausau, Duluth, EauClaire markets. But with Republicans wanting to extend the 7th CD to include St. Croix County, a challenger would need to buy airtime in LaCrosse and Twin Cities markets, a pricy option.
Wisconsins last three redistricting plans, occurring after each census, were decided in the courts because of divided majorities in the legislature. Now Republicans hold majorities in each chamber.
A public hearing on the proposed map is being held today.
If the GOP screws this up, I'm going to have to sign on elsewhere. EVERYTHING is lining up for the GOP to be in power in WI for decades to come!
Can they pull it off? I dunno. They're so d@mn good at snatching Defeat from the jaws of Victory!
Have you ever seen redistricting when Democrats are in charge? I rest my case.
Elections have consequences
I won...
Really Dems say that?
Observe very recent Democrat outright blatant jerrymandering of Illinois state legislative districts.
What’s good for the goose. . . .
The WI whiners need to head to Ill. where things are going their way.
Right there, I knew they were lying!
How can this be? Would someone please explain.
You might want to check this out and bring it to the attention of the people of your state.

You must be clairovoyant.
Usually, one has to wait for their lips to move, to know that they are lying.
Hey Donks, At least there is plenty of great cheese to go with that Whine!
“Elections have consequences, WE WON! They can come along for the ride, but they will have to sit in the back of the bus...”
WHAT DEMOCRAT SAID THIS...
Crybabies can be ignored; this is way more serious.
"Tramples fair elections?" whose concept of "fair elections?" Acceptable and normal so long as 'Rats get do it?
Whatever happened with 'elections have consequences?'
Personally, I would be happy with outlawing gerrymandering permanently, and tasking ordinary citizens, chosen at random, and all passing a moderately comprehensive civics test.
No ignorant "the Constitution is outmoded" need apply.
Like it or not, gerrymandering is a time honored tradition in American politics. It just tickles to see this happen to Dems.
From someone in a one party (Dem) state - California.
That would be the Pres__ent we currently have...

He claimed county residents have not cast a ballot for a state Senate race since 2008 and under the proposed map would not do so again until 2014.They'd have to wait a whole six years between elections instead of four! And in a county that's only 90% white! Why, that's not just disenfranchisement, it's Bull Connor all over again!< /lib hysteria >
For those playing at home:
‘Leader’ Miller was one of the 14 that slunk off to IL! The MINORITY LEADER did this!!
We should’ve locked the door when we had the chance, LOL! :)
I wonder if the governor retains some authority to declare them to be outlaws. Lotta folks will need to sharpen their shooting skills with the new concealed carry law in effect....
