Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) praised a backup plan by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to raise the debt ceiling.
I strongly support Senator McConnells efforts to avoid a default on our nations debt, and the last-case emergency proposal he outlined yesterday to ensure that Republicans arent unduly blamed for failure to raise the debt ceiling," McCain said in a statement on Wednesday.

When John McCain and Harry Reid are in your corner and Jim Demint is not, you must ask yourself “Where did I go wrong?”

I don’t know what this does for the Senate Republican Caucus but I’ll bet it spells the death knell for Senator McConnell’s plan in terms of conservative public opinion.

to ensure that Republicans arent unduly blamed for failure to raise the debt ceiling Yo, McQueeg... how about LEADING... as in, pass austere legislation and push it to Obama?
Thank God this man didn't get elected. I see very little evidence he'd have been any better... and his failure would've permanently taken Sarah Palin down with him.

“ensure that Republicans arent unduly blamed “
If ‘Public Relations Uber Alles’ is the point Johnny is ruining the show by stating a petty, selfish reason for the proposal.

So does Reid.
So does many of the Dems.
So does the Washington Post.

Those should say all we need to hear about McConnell’s plan. I doubt they even considered any unintended consequences.
