As third world countries go, Libyas $14,400 per capita (in US dollars) is quite high. Its actually higher than can be found in Argentina Mexico or Venezuela three second world countries. Egypts per capita income is $5,400, less than half of Libyas.
These numbers can explain what is going on in Libya and why America shouldnt be trying to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi.
Last winter when the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) realized it could finally force Mubarak out and take Egypt over it made its move. The MB incited crowds of dimwits to become violent and destabilize Mubaraks government.
This forced Mubarak to flee and left a vacuum of power in Cairo. .he was gone the Muslim Brotherhood applied for and got recognition as a legitimate political party, something they had been denied for years.
With this new respectability the MB has been given a free hand to arrange the necessary steps to insure they are democratically elected in Egypts September Parliamentary elections.
Once MB is running Egypt it will have a modern Army Navy and Air Force stocked with sophisticated American and European weapons (purchased with American taxpayer money.) . seat in the U.N.. Their next step is to take over Libya;but why?
American Intelligence components reported the financial condition of the Gaddafi government to be very rosy. The International Monetary Fund estimated his gold supplies at more than 143 tons of gold worth $6.5 billion.
high . income of Libya makes best to live for the average Muslim Arab Street. Its more than double what Egyptians make. Why then would Libyans be revolting against Gaddafi? The answer is they are not.

Except that the government gets 99% of that, not the people
I don't support the intervention, but this is absolute bullcrap.
There are large numbers in Libya opposed to Gaddafi -- folks like the Berbers whom he ruthlessly persecuted. Reagan called him the "Mad Dog of the Middle East" for a reason. Also, Libya's oil wealth doesn't placate the population -- it angers it. Gaddafi has been squandering the wealth of the nation on palaces and buxom Ukrainian prostitutes.
I’m very surprised that the thugs in control don’t just drop the hammer on these fake revolts in a quick and decisive move, as I would think that they would certainly be aware that possession is 9/10ths of the law.
If they got their police and military whipped into gear on routing out the invading al-kadas (who would stand out in local communities), scaring the bejeebies out of citizens to rat out anyone and everyone who was a so-called “rebel”, then, if the rebels do manage to put together a demonstration, rake it with machine gun fire quickly and scoop up the bodies. Then have a big trial of the treasonous rebel leaders.
This would give them enough legitimacy and sense of control to stay in power - the al-kadas would be forced to give up since no one would support them.
I think they were worried that these were actually popular uprisings and did not want to come down that hard. Oh well, lessons learned.
That’s why Obama is “in” on Libya and doing nothing about the Radical Terrorist supporting regime ruling Syria. OBAMA IS ROOTING FOR THE FRIGGIN’ MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD AND THE RADICAL ISLAMIC JIHADISTS. But, most Americans are to stupid to see it.
Libya is an enigma.
I don’t support either side.
It’s Kaddaffi vs. al Qaeda.
If it boils down to a “choose one” scenario, I hate al-Qaeda more than Kaddaffi.
We should not be there at all.

yes, you are correct about the Berbers. and every Dictator (which Gaddafi certainly is!), has many enemies.
but, jmaroneps37 is absolutely correct.
from MEMRI etc., the rebels THEMSELVES have admitted this.
(On Al-Jazeera!)
our own government reports support this.
and even French NGO’s report this in detail.

...also, please forgive my curiosity?
you say you don’t support the intervention? why?
...if the rebels truly were democratic moderate muslims,
i WOULD support the intervention!
It is important to win.
Daffy must die or Obama will have embarrassingly lost a non-war war, for which the French have recently moved into it’s surrender process. So Daffy must leave or die very soon.
Politics for Obama is so very very important, don’t cha know. Remember, the entire world loves this Nobel Peace Prize winner, so he can’t let them down, regardless of what it might cost us.
Obama-Daffy 2012
Qaddafi isn’t going anywhere . . . he’s sitting on 149 TONS of gold and that buys a lot of guns, ammo, and security. Without the idiots in NATO and BHO flying airplanes and dropping bombs and making things uncomfortable for Qaddafi’s troops, the “rebels” would be toast. They’d better start negotiating with the Colonel, if they can, for their lives. BHO and NATO will sell them out in the end and they’ll be subject to Col. Qaddafi’s mercies (or lack thereof).
Because it's not the job of US taxpayers to pay for every person everywhere to have a good and decent government and it's not the job of US servicemen and women to fight and die so that they can have that privilege.
There was precious little US national interest in intervening on behalf of either party -- even if the rebels are the side I happen to be rooting for.
