.At his press conference on Monday, President Obama made clear that his frustration with House Republicans' intransigence in negotiations to raise the federal borrowing limit did not extend to their leader. "I think Speaker Boehner has been very sincere about trying to do something big," Obama said, one of several compliments in an extended embrace of his negotiating partner. "The politics that swept him into the speakership were good for a midterm election; they're tough for governing."
Tough indeed. And a death hug from a polarizing Democratic President doesn't make the task easier for Boehner. From the start of his speakership, Boehner has been forced to contend not just with a fractious band of freshmen who would rather risk economic catastrophe than give ideological ground, but also with a top lieutenant positioning himself as Boehner's purist foil. While Obama may respect Boehner's forthrightness, recent twists in the plot of debt ceiling negotiations suggest that if he wants to convince hard-line House conservatives not to jeopardize the nation's economy, he may have been negotiating with the wrong Republican. (See "Inside Thursday's White House Debt Ceiling Meeting: A Consensus to Go Big.")
During the high-stakes summit at the White House on Sunday evening, Eric Cantor.....

I see TIME and yahoo are spreading another lie......which, no doubt will be swallowed by a mass of unthinking idiots who will believe anything if it is in print or on the internetz. =.=
Is there such a thing as a “Democrat hardliner?”
To some Virginians, “Sic semper tyrannis” has very real meaning.
Thank God someone is providing constant marrow and calcium to Boehner’s b/c Boehner’s spine is turning to Jello...
“Boehner has been forced to contend not just with a fractious band of freshmen who would rather risk economic catastrophe than give ideological ground,”
Thats it, it is the republicans who have put our economy at risk. I am so glad Time cleared that up for me, I thought the Dems were in charge the last 2 years.
“a fractious band of freshmen who would rather risk economic catastrophe than give ideological ground”
If there is anyone who could be charged with “risking economic catastrope rather than give ideological ground” it is the sorry Marxist punk in the White House, not the Tea Party freshmen congressman who are trying to keep us from going over the cliff.
One more example of why Time is moribund.
The article claims Cantor is the actual Speaker of the House...he did most of the talking during the debt meetings while Boehner kept mostly quiet. Who knows for sure?
Since you cannot talk to a live person at Boehner’s office, I’ve been talking to Cantor staffers every day. FWIW.
“Boehner has been forced to contend not just with a fractious band of freshmen who would rather risk economic catastrophe than give ideological ground”
Taqiyya alert! Taqiyya alert!
The writers of this story are on crack. Cantor is far from a purist, and the freshmen tea partiers are trying to save the country from economic ruin, not ‘risk ... catastrophe’. Duh.
Don’t give Cantor all the credit.
If the Tea-Party did not exist, Bonehead and “The Gobbler” Mcconnell would have caved long ago. They still may cave, but make no mistake, the RINO’s will pay a very heavy price if they do.
The days of caving without paying a HEAVY price are long gone.
.
If Goebbels put out an ‘inside look’ at the relationship between Churchill and Roosevelt Time and Yahoo would lead with it...
Cantor knows he is on the short list to get Tea Partied out of his seat if he keeps screwing up.
And Cantor’s staff is saying what...that they confirm this shit being posted by TIME/Yahoo? other reputable sources would suggest that such was not the case, fwiw.
Well, there's the dumbass Democrat hardliner...
And, the "insane in the membrane" hardliner...
hey, “And a death hug from a polarizing Democratic President doesn’t make the task easier for Boehner.”
Have you EVER before read that maybe, just maybe, Obama is POLARIZING? This is hugh and series progress.
>>Cantor knows he is on the short list to get Tea Partied out of his seat if he keeps screwing up.<<
if it is forcing him to do the right thing, that works for me.
:)
