I think Obama/Geithner are TRYING to cause this default and will fumble the checks and paying bonds even though they don't have to in order to precipitate a crisis they can blame on the Republicans and Tea Party.
If this response is used, it may FINALLY grab the attention of the muddy middle that we can't afford all the entitlements right now.
I assume that ‘unemployment’ checks would stop as well.....................

During the last major shutdown, which lasted about a month starting in late 1995, the Social Security Administration mailed checks throughout the crisis, and a close reading of established law makes clear the agency has the legal authority to do so again.
“I am absolutely sure the checks would be sent out,” said John F. Cooney, a partner at law firm Venable who designed shutdown plans for the government while employed at the Office of Management and Budget.
Robert Reischauer, president of the Urban Institute and a trustee of the Social Security and Medicare trust funds, backed that view, saying claims that benefits won’t be paid are “not true.”
The legal case is pretty clear. In 1995, President Clinton’s lawyers in the Department of Justice laid out how federal agencies should operate if Congress failed to appropriate funds.

Of course he is trying to get seniors to demand Republicans sign on to tax increases so they can get their SS checks. I was predicting this a month ago here.
But Democrats have been on every show for years claiming SS is self funded and is NOT adding a penny to the debt. If it was NOT adding a penny to the debt then how can the debt limit affect it now?
Unfortunately Boehner and McConnell's lines are tied up or I would ask them why they are not calling Democrats on this big lie.
Impeachment should be initiated immediately. Draw the articles. This man is a Menace. A clear danger to the Republic.

“O” is a person with just the kind of malice to work it this way. Personally, I think “O” is capable of positively ANYTHING..so long as it does not interfere with his re election.

This statement by the President should scare the hell out of Democrats. What he is doing now is to ensure that Democrats don’t get re-elected to office, including himself.
