Did Sarah Palin Use Newsweek for Product Placement? (Accused of crime for wearing gym clothing)
Forbes ^ | Monday, July 11, 2011 | Jeff Bercovici

Posted on 07/11/2011 3:30:34 PM PDT by kristinn

Sarah Palin is no fan of the “lamestream media” — except when she’s using it to serve her ends. Is she using Newsweek to get free personal training? And, if so, is that entirely legal?

The former Alaska governor appears on the cover of the new issue of Newsweek wearing a gray sweatshirt with a logo on it reading “Edge Fitness.” That’s the name of a gym in Palin’s hometown of Wasilla. Edge Fitness was featured last November in an episode of her TLC show “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” and it also received a plug on a Facebook page Palin apparently created under an alias and used for posting pseudonymous comments.

A Newsweek spokesman says Palin selected her own clothing for the photo shoot; there was no stylist present. It could be that Palin is simply such a big fan of Edge’s services, she can’t resist proselytizing for them. But Palin is known for aggressive monetization of her personal brand and a taste for the material perquisites of Hollywood-style fame. It seems probable, therefore, that she’s getting something for her enthusiastic endorsements — perhaps free personal training? I’ve emailed Palin, directly and via her SarahPAC, but haven’t heard back. I also haven’t heard back from Edge Fitness.

She has been known to seek payment from magazines in exchange for her participation in stories.

This is the same crap they pulled in Alaska with those frivolous lawsuits - griping about her wearing an Arctic Cat jacket at the Irondog, etc.

It's almost impossible to find "active wear" clothes that don't have a logo of some type prominently displayed... and she's a private citizen right now, right?

In what way is this different from what is routinely done my Madison Avenue, with its ads and supermodels?

Palin is a free individual; even if she is boosting something, (free or for profit) whose business is it of anyone else's?

This article is simply nothing but envy-driven, socialistic, anti-capitalist BS!!!

I was waiting to see if anyone else remembered that, before I posted a reply.

Not only was the picture lifted from a running magazine, but the same stupid thing was said about what she was wearing, in that other picture, as well. I was wondering how soon an article like this would raise its ugly head. It took a bit longer than I thought it would.

Sadly, those writing anti-Palin stuff are just SO predictable!

Good...........someone else remembers that nasty/moronic thing re what Palin was wearing.

IIRC, this is at least the third time this same old tired canard has been pulled.

Exactly right. re: “It’s almost impossible to find “active wear” clothes that don’t have a logo of some type prominently displayed... and she’s a private citizen right now, right?”

Also, she proudly promotes her state and free market capitalizm. That has GOT to be crimminal, right?

And where is the 3 inch vertical strip that was removed to narrow her carcass down to that extent?

Can’t find the link at the moment.
It was a news source which must maintain a reputation of truth and accuracy, so their strict policy is no photo editing (not even red eye removal). Very strict.

Wondered about that when I saw the picture. I decided she’s just giggin’ ‘em.

Who does she owe any sort of answer to, anyway? I want to know what the writer has to gain, and since he purports to be a “reporter” hiding under the First Amendment, he owes me some integrity.

Shake up those picky little whiney pots, Sarah!

Speaking of the British Royalty I wonder what this scribe thinks of the Royal Warrant program where certain vendors and manufacturers that supply the royals get to display the coat of arms of the specific royal in question. Most of them are British but I have seen French Champagne with it as well.

I don't think she's got anything against product placement ...

...as long as it fits in the suitcase.

Anyone want to email the editor at Forbes ( I did, and was not subtle about it) for a little venting?

From the article:

“She’s certainly a celebrity, but she’s also a politician.”

Ummm....not currently. The author is probably an Establishment Republican fingerniffer who is just trying to cause trouble for Governor Palin and help out Myth Romney.

Mrs. P should sue-— This is libel.
