A Catholic school in New York has rejected and returned a $50 donation from a Democrat politician who voted in favor of the states recent same-sex marriage legislation.
The school, Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy, decided to return the money after Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio issued a statement, asking each school and church in his diocese to refuse any distinction or honors bestowed upon them this year by the governor or any member of the legislature who voted to support this [same-sex marriage] legislation.
Assemblyman Joe Lentol (D-Brooklyn), who calls himself Catholic, said that he was surprised and a little disappointed by the schools action, according to NBC.
What I have done in this particular piece of legislation is what I was taught as a Catholic.

That's what you get when you allow politics to teach you about Catholicism.
Guess he skipped out of Catechism class the day they went over that section of the Bible.
Now follow through and deny him communion until he repents.
I still think it is clueless for Bishop Dimarzio to also punish the legislators who voted on the bishop’s side. Wait till he trys to get their help next time.
Excommunicate all of them.
“...any member of the legislature who voted to support this [same-sex marriage] legislation.”
The bishop’s charge related only to those who SUPPORTED the legislation. Where do you get that it punishes the legislators who were on the bishop’s [church’s] side?
The Bishop said it Thursday on The World Over on EWTN.
Heard on the news today that Illinois officials will not be renewing foster care and adoption contracts with Catholic Charities because they will not comply with the new Illinois Civil Union law. 1,000’s of children will be affected.
I just assumed that since he was a Dem ...
You don’t learn about gay marriage in Catholic children’s “religious ed.” classes. You learn that you need to be nice to others. He probably genuinely thinks that his faith called him to vote for niceness and compassion for those who are different, and that the Bishop is a meanie.
What I have done in this particular piece of legislation is what I was taught as a Catholic.
.
So it is the Catholic Church’s fault for teaching him that same-sex marriage was theologically acceptable?
What a liar. There is nothing in Catholic teaching supporting his answer. He will be real suprised when he has to answer before God.
What I have done in this particular piece of legislation is what I was taught as a Catholic.
I think I must have been sleeping for 12 years, cause’ I don’t remember where Sister Margaret told us this was Ok with God!
He was probably having a ‘senior moment.’ Obviously, he and his flock should do everything they can to support those who voted on their side. Given the current political climate and the pressure on the state legislators, especially those from the more urban districts that encompass the Brooklyn Diocese, it took political courage to vote against the legislation.
You do if you’re in my class. :)
Hey Lentol....you are tapdancing on the trapdoor of HELL!!!! CHANGE your ways.
The clergy who are resisting this perversion are good and holy people. Pray hard for them.
