Former Sen. John W. Warner, R-Va., briefly stepped back into politics Friday, joining U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu to urge the preservation of light bulb standards that were included in the 2007 energy bill.
The U.S. House could vote as early as Monday on the BULB Act (Better Use of Light Bulbs) introduced by Rep. Joe Barton, a Texas Republican. It would strip from the law, signed by then-President George W. Bush, standards that traditional incandescent bulbs be 30 percent more efficient starting next year.
Barton says consumers, not the government, should determine what type of light bulbs to purchase.

You are right. The split might be closer to 60/40.
Check the WSJ. We’ve nearly doubled the number of people on food stamps in just 3 years.

I didn’t like it then and I sure don’t like it now. I started stockpiling light bulbs when GW signed this stupid law. I lost half of my stockpile in the divorce but I still have plenty to last a few years.

The true commies are very clever, even to the point of enlisting and duping people who would be vehemently anti-communist. How many lefties have you ever tried to point out to how their ideology is furthering the cause of communism and they [honestly] deny that they support communism?
What the true communists do is find a cause that will, if pursued, accomplish the same goals as they are pursuing, but is a “sympathetic” cause.
Feminism, civil rights, and environmentalism are just some quick examples of causes that the communists have gotten behind to further their goals.
If a communist pol were to get up and state that he intended to destroy capitalism and the American economy, he wouldn’t get many votes (some, of course). But if he got up and said he favored environmental policies that saved the cute cuddly polar bears and kept the earth from warming, he’d enlist a lot more support. The end result would be the same, and he’d get it done a lot faster and easier.

And almost half the people in this country don’t pay any income tax. Ok. I’m revising downward again. 51/49.

I never had any use for that statist SOB, Warner. This only reinforces my opinion. The feds operate on the principle of if it moves tax it, if it keeps moving regulate it, and if it keels over (because of the taxes and regulations, not that the statists would ever admit it) then subsidize it. They regulate what features my car has, what fuel I put into it, how I heat or light my house, the fact and degree of medical insurance that I must have, how I must purchase the guns that they allow me to have, etc., etc., etc. Heck, they even regulate how we take a crap (low-flow toilets)!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - GET THE HELL OFF OF OUR BACKS, OR THERE'S GOING TO BE A REVOLUTION THE LIKES OF WHICH THE WORLD HAS NEVER SEEN!!!!

Is this the John Warner that was married to Elizabeth Taylor? I thought he died. Or was there another John Warner that was a younger man?

John Warner was married to Elizabeth Taylor.
Yes, he is a senile, old coot.
You may be thinking of Mark Warner, former governor of Virginia and current junior senator from Virginia. They are not related except in political philosophy.

If so, now I've heard everything.

No, we just split up the personal property. The property settlement just had a statement about splitting up the personal property 50/50. He got half the stash of light bulbs and I got the other half. I figure I’ll be able to barter for good stuff when the ban goes into effect. And, if by some miracle, we get our Constitutional government back, I won’t have to buy any more light bulbs for the foreseeable future.

Ya'll are hilarious. HE got half of the light bulbs I stockpiled. He thought I was stupid to stockpile them. He'll be glad he has half the stockpile when the ban goes into effect.

Fair enough. It's just that we've gotten used to it being the guy who gets pummeled in a divorce - even if he's not a dim bulb. ;-).

BIG GOVERNMENT DEMOCRATS & REPUBLICANS BELIEVE THIS:
The peasants and other lesser beings cannot be permitted to just wander aimlessly through life making decisions based on their own narrow wants and needs.
It is the rightful place of their Superiors to guide them, to tell them what to do and how to live, so that all mankind will benefit from the Superiors’ greater wisdom.
