TIR Poll: Bachmann Overtakes Romney in Iowa
The Iowa Republican ^ | July11 ,2011 | Craig Robinson

Posted on 07/11/2011 6:02:56 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has surpassed former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney in a recent Iowa poll that was conducted by TheIowaRepublican.com. With Bachmann now leading in Iowa, Romney has fallen to second place, but he is still well ahead of third place finisher Tim Pawlenty, who has overtaken Herman Cain my a miniscule margin.

Bachmann received support from 25 percent of likely Iowa caucus goers in the poll, while Romney is backed by 21 percent. The poll also shows signs of growth for former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who now stands in third place in statistical tie with Herman Cain at just under nine percent. Ron Paul finished with six percent, Newt Gingrich with four percent, Rick Santorum with two percent, and Jon Huntsman rounded out the field with one percent.

The poll clearly indicates that Bachmann has hit a chord with Iowans. Her campaign has enjoyed a tremendous amount of media coverage since she stepped foot on the debate stage in New Hampshire just over three weeks ago. As the clear Iowa frontrunner, Bachmann must now cement her position at the front of the pack by winning the Ames Straw Poll next month.

With Romney not participating in the straw poll, Bachmann’s lead over the rest of the field is substantial as she is ahead of Pawlenty and Cain by 16 points. She has also raised her expectations by embracing her Iowa roots. Not only is Bachmann the Iowa frontrunner, but she has constantly reminded Iowans that she’s one of them at every campaign stop. While it didn’t take her long to shoot to the top of the polls, winning in Ames and later in the caucuses themselves requires a massive ground game. If she has one area of weakness, that would be it.

I don’t think the field is set just yet. There still are the PPs making noise about running and if one gets in then it will change the dynamics greatly I believe. If one of the PPs doesn’t get in then we have a weak field, imo.

I suggest anti-Bachmann FReepers converge on Iowa and try harder than ever to destroy her, this time in person instead of online. /sarc

To you, who know who you are, you know you’ll never be happy until she’s destroyed, so get with it.

And the South, and the West, and parts of the East. Look for her to make a run at Romney even in Romney’s backyard NH. Romney does not know it yet, but he is no longer the favorite to get the GOP nod.

I look for Bachmann to become the surprise first woman President. Every time the lib media look to deflate her, she will get bigger.

He never was. He was the medias choice.

Is Cain putting in a lot of effort there? It seems the almost universal response to hearing Cain is surprise and admiration. Seems to me he has a lot of upside room yet.

Iowa's never been part of Romney's strategy.

I've concluded both of them are turkeys and would be the gift of reelection to Obama.

Cain has put a lot of time and resource into Iowa (despite rumors otherwise), he is opening his Iowa campaign HQ there today and his new staff are getting the job done. They will be outstanding.

Why? Bachman is a better conservative than “Tex” Perry, the lying open borders, TTC loving, overspending, Gardasil pushing, gross revenues tax imposing, sodomite “hate crimes” bill signing wonder boy.

I’ll support Perry if I have to - and I suspect he will be the nominee - but I’m not going to pretend that he going to be a whole lot better than McCain (well, his hair is a lot better).

To criticize Bachmann in her present role as an announced candidate is by no means to be 'anti-Bachmann'. She has played a core role in the coalescence of the Tea Party. By many accounts, she has done yeoman work inside the House, educating and counseling the freshman conservative members. Against these highly positive factors must be set some objective realities, not necessarily in order of importance:

[1] She engaged Ed Rollins as her campaign manager, a per se sign that she did so without thoroughly vetting Rollins, who can best be described as a loopy legend in his own mind, with all kinds of baggage, BTW. Query, why couldn't she have done better?

[2] She has no money and lacks the star power to raise it any time soon.

[3} She is getting far too much positive attention from the mainslime media - a sure sign of un-electability for any conservative candidate. What do they see that has not been brought to light?

[4] She has no executive experience, zero, zip, nada. This matters, people.

[5] She is not Sarah Palin. In her wildest dreams, Bachmann cannot pull in the independents, the unions, the single moms, the military families, in Sarah Palin's numbers within those crucial groups. In order to save the country, winning the White House with narrow margins in the congress will not suffice. We must also win the House and the Senate with working conservative majorities. This will require a tsunami and only Sarah Palin has the demonstrated vision, power and the skill to win by tsunami. Vision and skill underscored and case closed.
