Betty Ford said things that first ladies just don't say, even today. And 1970s America loved her for it.
According to Mrs. Ford, her young adult children probably had smoked marijuana - and if she were their age, she'd try it, too. She told "60 Minutes" she wouldn't be surprised to learn that her youngest, 18-year-old Susan, was in a sexual relationship (an embarrassed Susan issued a denial).

You can air your views without being vitriolic ...
I did not agree with her stance on abortion - but I also recognize her contribution to the United States in general ...

" Speaking the truth here now gets a freepers comments removed?" No, your vulgar words, your curse words, your re-posting your vulgarities and cursing the dead, and frankly disgusting decorum on an obituary thread got them removed.

Look, don’t take a pompous self righteous view with me. If I get into your posting history I’m sure it’s a treasure trove of “vitriolic” remarks. I will not stand down on this. I will on this thread, but not on my opinion; Betty Ford was a pro-abort/pro-death Rino. For me, that is where I part company.

If I get into your posting history Im sure its a treasure trove of vitriolic remarks. For the most part [on my part], NO - check out my posting history. I am usually SARCASTIC [or try to be] ...
I try to be objective - thats what this web site is all about. There are a few things that I am passionate about - but I DO NOT try to defame living [or recently dead persons].
The closest I EVER came to a Zot was on a religious thread - where I let my emotions get the best of me ...

Yes I am and I used no vulgarities on this thread. However I did point out the truth about Ford being a pro-abort. So, it was removed however the remark, by another poster, about her being a classless drunken cow still stands. Go figure.

I didnt know she was a pro-abort/pro-death woman until this very evening. The liberal media is singing her praises today because she advocated the killing of unborn children.
That is their way of honoring her life.

Maybe the other remark stands - that doesn't give you license to to add to the vitriol. Show a little bit of class yourself ...

Palin supporter, and featured in The Undefeated, Tammy Bruce is pro-abortion. In your opinion how does this reflect on Palin?

Bill Buckley memorably spoke of Betty Ford and her rambling and relentless trendiness. Noting that it would not at all be surprising if any normal young man would be eager to accept what her "nubile" daughter Susan had to give, Bill wondered aloud what qualifications Betty might seek in a lover for 18 year old Susan: that he be rich? (no certainly that would not be a politically sustainable restriction), that he be handsome or athletic? (surely Susan herself would be a better judge of such qualities in her potential lover) that he be a moderate Republican? preposterous! Bill concluded reluctantly that Mrs. Ford who had attained her high place in American life by a "concatenation" of events romantic (with Mr. Ford) and felonious (Nixon's felonies) had not thought the matter through and was probably incapable of thinking the matter through or she would not have raised the subject in the first place.
Now, granted that Bill was having a great deal of fun at her expense when she was alive and able to answer him back (but wise enough not to try), she was nonetheless a member of our fallen human race as are we all. She was a sinner as are we all. She needed the salvation earned for her by her Savior as do we all. May she have repented and have accepted that salvation! May we all! And may God have mercy on her immortal soul (and on the souls of each of us when our respective times come)!
We need not be nasty to her or to one another over her demise.

Those comments are the ones you might see on the DailyKos or Moveon. I was thinking the same thing.

Probably a bunch of liberals masking as “conservatives” trying to make us look bad. Now they’ll sign out and sing into their DU account and “expose” us conservatives by posting their nasty comments and saying “look at what these repugs write about the dead. No respect at all”
To: BlackElk; DJ MacWoW; TheOldLady
Amen.
The woman is gone from this earth just today ... sinner, imperfect and failed as we all are, with positive actions. God is now in charge of appraising her life, as he will for mine and us all.
We all know her past, but there are considerations of right time/right place, civility and appropriate discourse regarding those who’ve just died.
It just feels very wrong, uncomfortable, .. especially the hateful remarks. My childhood lessons are right there speaking to me.
We are Free Republic .. not a crude, cruel, heartless, leftist site.
God bless and help us all.
