The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights says the United States breached international law by executing a Mexican national.
Navi Pillay, in a statement Friday, said he deeply regrets the execution of Humberto Leal Garcia, after a last-minute 5-4 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court denied him a stay of execution Thursday night.
"The execution of Mr. Leal Garcia places the U.S. in breach of international law," said Pillay, who is currently on official mission in Mexico. "What the state of Texas has done in this case is imputable in law to the U.S. and engages the United States' international responsibility."
Garcia was convicted of raping and killing a 16-year-old girl and was executed by lethal injection Thursday evening in Texas.

Suggestion for the day!!! Throw the United Nations out of our country and throw POTUS Obama, the hater of America out with them!!!! I just wonder what Obama would do if one of his daughters, God forbid, was molested and murdered by an animal like this fellow??? The heck with the UN & certainly, the heck with “dirt bag” Barack Hussein Obama!!!
They can pound sand.
Eff the UN. Get the UN the “H” out of American business, American politics, American sovereignty. This is what we on the “right” should be looking to do. It should be as major a goal as getting Obama out of the wheelhouse, and away from the helm. Perhaps secured in the bilge.
The UN is a tool of the enemy of Freedom everywhere. We must break their tool, and bury it.
Strong letter to follow.
Yikes. Who’s that, the poster child for burkas?
Let the U.N. whine, it has no real power anyways.
Odd I don’t recall the UN making any such pronouncements so far in regard to Fast & Furious. After all what the US did could be considered an act of war by Mex. Perhaps I missed that well publicized UN event?
One of the biggest debacles in USA history was accepting the ‘gift’ from the internationalists Rockefeller family to have UN headquartered in the USA. This was surely a case of the camel getting it’s nose into the tent.
For once we shoved this up the UN butt.
Maybe another peace prize.
Ya gotta love it.
Is the U.N. even relevant anymore?
There’s no such thing as “international law”. Blow it out your a$$, UN.
To be fair, Bush did the same thing in 2008. However, back then there was no Supreme Court case saying it is the responsibility of Congress to pass a law implementing the treaty, and that the conviction stands. Bush was operating in new legal territory, and had to do his job with the responsibility for foreign relations.
Since then Congress had years to pass a law implementing the treaty, and Obama had years to push for one. Obama’s people knew about that precedent, yet they still tried to rehash the same argument.
Personally, I think the liberals held it up because it would require some kind of the dreaded profiling in order to determine whether someone needed to know these rights. To allow it would show their hypocrisy.
Countries are allowed their own laws. If I spit out my gum on the sidewalk in Singapore, I’d deserve a caning. If an illegal creeps across our border and rapes and kills a teen girl, he gets the chair. Deal with it.
The only “international laws” are treaties governments voluntarily sign.
