Elizabeth Smart, who at age 14 in 2002 was abducted from her Utah home and held captive for nine months, will reportedly work for ABC News on missing-persons stories.

Probably a good move on ABC’s part. She’s a beautiful young lady and, with a bit of coaching in the beginning, will probably do an excellent job. She certainly has my very best wishes.
The thing that stands out about the Elizabeth Smart abduction story is that Fox News perfected the “FOX NEWS ALERT (complete with ‘whoosh’ and full-screen graphic) - “NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS” format....
Looks like a stunt to me. A high profile (former) missing person to report missing persons cases?
GAG ME!!
Nice to see her starting a career! She’s a beautiful and poised young lady. Good news for a change, with the Casey Anthony and debt ceiling stories bringing me down.

Good luck to her. May she be successful. Anyone who has gone what she has gone through and come out a stronger person deserves it.
Some good news to read for a change :)
I may get blasted on this site, but ever since the story of her abduction broke, something didn’t sit right with me. It still doesn’t. Her father seemed to be a media hound and the facts didn’t seem to line up. Even when she was found, she was in a position all along to escape.
I don’t believe we have the whole story, IMHO, there was a wllingness or a manipulation for her to go with him.
OK blast away!
Exactly right. These days "news" departments are part of the entertainment division. That's why you see so many "fluff" pieces, very little real news, and absolutely no objectivity.
Of course it's a stunt. But she's pretty, and if she can read lines, why not her as opposed to someone else who's pretty and can read lines?
You think there might have been manipulation? Huh?
You mean like “If you try to leave or get away, I will kill the rest of your family.”?
Do you think that, and the brutal rape every night, might have scared a 14 year old girl into not wanting to make the psychopath mad?
You mean that kind of manipulation?
“Then she actually has to do a good job or be canned.”
That’s true. I have a feeling she’ll do better than “good”. She’s smart, and has performed before large audiences playing a difficult instrument so the camera most likely won’t intimidate her. ABC though... I don’t know about that.
It all made sense. She was probably raised in a house where “keeping sweet” was expected. When faced with a psychopath rapist, she fell back on that position for survival.
Why she didn’t escape when she was in a safe position is beyond me but I’ve never been kidnapped.
I like this young lady, and I wish her well. Her notoriety has gotten her foot in the door. If she has the skill... and I believe she does, she’ll do well from there. From the interviews that I have seen, she has shown more poise than her interviewers.
As I recall, she was convinced by her abductor that if she escaped, he would kill her family.
