I don't believe that a person that committed a crime, did their time (the consequences you talked about), and is no longer on probation, should be deprived of any of their rights. Redemption is a strong motivator for some, take away the possibility of redemption and recidivism will increase.
It doesn't sound like a conservative principle, in fact it sounds like something a Democrat came up with. I will need to look into that.
Not that long ago in this country, when you were released from prison they would hand you your guns back. It wouldn't be possible to convince me that we are better off today than we in that time.

Then why should one be required to get license to drive a car, or go deer hunting, etc. those are all jim crow laws aren’t they.

Exactly. And the consequences are a direct result of the lousy CHOICE you made to commit a crime.
