Autum Ashante, a highly academically accomplished 13-year-old from the Bronx, N.Y., planned to start her freshman year at the University of Connecticut this fall. Now, her father says, the school has rescinded her acceptance, the Daily News reports.
Batin Ashante said that his daughter was "devastated" after university officials called him yesterday to deliver the bad news. "They said they now feel she's not academically ready," he said. "That's BS!"
When the story was first reported in mid-June, UConn spokesman Richard Veilleaux confirmed that Autum had been accepted to the school but said university officials were still waiting for the family to formally enroll. Autum -- a homeschooled student widely described as a "prodigy," who speaks four languages and has an IQ of 149 -- was widely praised by the media and blogosphere.
"I've got nothing but positive feedback," her father told the Daily News. "I'm her dad, and it just bothers me to see her go through this." He said the family had notified the school she'd be attending, raised funds for tuition and planned to move to Connecticut. They'll still go after receiving this news but will explore other academic options. "I'm fed up. They have insulted us and the work that we've put in," he added. "I'm not sure I want her to be involved with an institution that treats her like that."

I would like one of the FR’s to please correct me if I am wrong but an I.Q. of 149 doesn’t make her a genius. Is she gifted/talented? Yes, absolutely but she’s not a prodigy. Let her enjoy her high school years before attending a college. IMHO.
High school, the place to get dumbed down and pregnant.
Reading the ‘Comments’ section, it appears there is a bit more to this story than it first seems. Sounds like the Father has been fast and loose with the truth on several issues. The UConn rejection might have something to so with those items coming to light.
A 13 yr old is not anywhere near ready for college, socially and emotionally ...kudos to CT for not buckling to the race card and doing what is best for the child

An IQ of 140 is generally considered to be "genius."
She certainly sounds smart. It’s a pity her parents didn’t know how to spell “Autumn”...
She never went to college, she was homeschooled. In all things considered, it was a wise thing for her father to do. If she went to high school then she would have been under alot of peer pressure and may became just another statistic in teen pregnancy and H.S. dropout.
But of course 13 is way to young to go to college, she should go when she is 18 instead. In the meantime, she can study subjects that interest her. Even prodigies shouldn’t be going to college until 18.

A child homeschooled by a virulent rasist who apparently has not provided all the requested “documentation” of her test/claimed IQ scores etc to the University?
Are not college acceptances “provisional” upon receipt of all background materials requested?
Hmm. I smell “civil rights” lawsuit and payola. Not to mention papa bankrolling all those “donated” tuition funds.
According to Mensa, A genius in the top 2 per cent of the population. For IQ measures, 145 is approximately the top 1 per cent, so she would qualify.

You can’t get pregnant or “dumbed down” in a college? There are many options for this girl. I know one boy who was brilliant in math. We’re not talking smart but “knock it out of the park” brilliant at math. He wasn’t “global” but high I.Q.’d at math only. So, he took his honor English, language, etc... at the local high school and his math classes at a college. The school system worked with him since he finished all high school math (including Calculus, statistics etc) by ninth grade. My point is unless a student is global (i.e. brilliant in all subjects), finished successfully all requirements for high school, has the emotional capability to attend an adult university... then she should be able to experience her youth. This young lady could still take advanced courses at a local community college or online and still be with people her own age.

And drunk ! Uconn is my alma mater , notoriously known as a drinking school with a basketball problem .
Being home schooled is probably the reason she was denied access to College.
A 13 year old who has done this well without the Gov schools is a slap in the face for the left who believe only bad things come from not sending a child to their awful school system.
