Rick Perry: Would Obama stand a chance against the Texas governor?
Los Angeles Times ^ | July 6, 2011 | LA Times Editorial Staff

Posted on 07/06/2011 9:20:05 PM PDT by Clairity

President Obama wouldn't stand a chance if Texas Gov. Rick Perry were to win the Republican nomination. That's Merrill Matthews' theory anyway. On the conservative website Human Events, he compares Obama to Perry in terms we can all understand.

Which brings us to the Obama vs. Perry records on the economy.

Unemployment: Then, 7.3% of Americans were unemployed and 9.1% are unemployed today.

...Yet, as this Times article demonstrates, there's no doubt Perry brings more to the table in terms of successful governing experience than anyone else seeking to challenge Obama.

lol. Does that mean the media is more afraid of the ones they push than the ones they trash ?? Seriously anyone could beat Obama but Bachmann et al. In the general election, wbat sbe doesn’t self-destruct, the Obama machine and media would destroy her. IMHO. ...

Better poll question for polling:

Does the unpopular Obama have a chance against ANY Republican?

- “unrepentant globalist shill” not really, he stands up for Texas,

While violating the Logan Act making deals at a Bilderberg conference in Turkey? Sic,

"Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."

Yeah, right, he didn't give a crap about the law when came his big chance to kiss ass to globalist power freaks, the very banksters we're bailing out for their criminal racketeering with our kids' inheritances.

Meanwhile, back home, you WAY understate his past support blanket amnesty. That's a deal breaker, but it's more symptom than cause. The "cause" is that he'll do what it takes to wield power, whether paying off big donors with unconstitutional regulations or travesties such as amnesty, Rick Perry is for Rick Perry, first, last, and always, "Texas" was all talk, a means to an end, just like his loose babble about secession. The man is a user. The answer is "No."

Pretty soon we will be hearing that nobody can beat Barry except Perry. The truth is by next November I could beat Barry running on the Georgia Redneck Assualt Weapon ticket.

No damage was done. I used to own a ranch in Texas, I am not anti Texas and certainly no pro Chicago.

Your leftist bigotry is showing.

>>What is your complaint about it?<<

I tend to think like most capitalists and business owners. If I am going to combine existing departments into one for greater efficiency, the goal to be accomplished should be doing more with less employees. Is this what Bush accomplished with TSA?

"TSA now operates with an ever-expanding federal army of more than 62,500 employees, not to mention scores of contractors. The number of employees at TSA exceeds the staff of nearly half a dozen Cabinet agencies.

These are not short term temporary employees. These are full time, full benefit employees that You and I will have to support until the day they die. That's right, they will receive pensions and medical plan benefits until the day they die!

"TSA’s massive administrative staff includes 3,770 bureaucrats in Washington and more than 9,300 administrative personnel across the country. For the nation’s 447 airports, that’s an average of nearly 30 TSA administrative staff for each airport, before even counting the army of screeners.

(snip)Worker attrition also plagues the agency and inflates agency costs unnecessarily. More than a billion dollars has been spent to train replacements for TSA personnel who have walked away from their jobs. Not even collective bargaining will be enough to quell the discontented screeners who come to work and observe a dysfunctional agency top-heavy with highly paid bureaucrats.

Perhaps you don't mind being x rayed, probed, poked and groped but I do. I resent this monstrous government agency being thrust onto the list of monthly bills I must pay. I especially resent the salaries and benefits this ineffective agency gives to our unproductive civil servants.

Bush deservedly gets a bad rap about a lot of things. Increasing the number of federal employees by almost 50% is one of them. You say he wanted to do this with full time, long term, private contractors. Can you name any agency that hires employees to operate under such terms. See the word contract within contractors? That represents an agreement which must be renegotiated to be renewed. Do you really believe that they would remain "private"? No, and neither did Bush. If you foolishly believed the news piece about TSA you don't yet understand how politicians speak.

You have to be purposely misstating what I said. That is the kindest way I can say it.

I said he combined several existing agencies into the Department of Homeland Security for greater efficiency AND to exempt them from the Civil Service control they were previously under. Why did you then go off on a rant about that being about TSA when it obviously was not? TSA didn’t even exist at that time.

I also said that Bush wanted independent contractors to do the TSA job so that they could be better controlled, hired and fired. Instead the DEMOCRATS insisted on and got a new government agency, all of them now union employees who cannot be fired. That is what Bush was trying to avoid!

For you to screw that up so badly it had to be on purpose!

You seem to have BDS, Bush Derangement Syndrome.

That is correct. And, looking at the difference between this forum, and the one at Human Events, the level of respect in comparison to the two sites is like comparing DU to Red State.

This Perry hatred here has gone beyond tolerable. He is being treated much like Giuliani was here in 2008, but the degree of the attacks has taken an extremely ugly direction.

"Texas" was all talk, a means to an end, just like his loose babble about secession. The man is a user. The answer is "No."

I'm far from defending Perry, but while I partly agree with you, I'd like to point out that in Rick Perry's mind, he never advocated secession.

According to Perry's website, this is his belief in regards to secession:

I can’t say I was surprised that critics worked so hard to recast my defense of federalism and fiscal discipline into advocacy for secession from the Union. Of course, I have never advocated for secession and never will.

My guess is that he was just playing that crowd to win a few points with them. That happens a lot.

Otherwise known as what I called "loose babble."

That happens a lot.

Precisely my point. He'll outright misrepresent himself for purposes of gain. It's a serious ethical issue when it comes to discerning what he would actually do.

Barry beat McCain by 10 million votes. If the American public is willing to knowingly vote in a Marxist over McCain, RINO that he is, I would not be so sure that anybody could easily beat Obama. Whoever runs, they need to be conservative and have as little baggage as possible, which rules out Romney and Perry right off the bat.

If we run another RINO with a lot of baggage, Obama won't have to check out of the White House.

Now if you were running, well you're a conservative and hopefully the only baggage you have is the clothing you'd bring with you, so you'd stand a better chance.

Precisely my point. He'll outright misrepresent himself for purposes of gain. It's a serious ethical issue when it comes to discerning what he would actually do.

Judging by his career, it's easy to figure out what he'll do - help his donors and his friends. He's given 10 years worth of speeches and editorials as Governor talking about border security while trying to make it easier on illegal immigrants, and it just so happens that over that 10 years, his biggest donors represent industries that benefit from illegal immigrants. It was not a coincidence a few weeks ago that he was campaigning in California while a bill barring sanctuary cities that he felt was incredibly important and an "emergency" was basically being killed off by his biggest donors and then left to die in a special session that he called in order to deal with it. He didn't rush back to fight for its resurrection, and he's not calling for another session. In hindsight, it was clear he was just playing the anti-illegal immigrant crowd.

He's also got a track record of supporting projects that benefit his friends and donors whether it was the HPV/Merck stuff, the Convergen Lifesciences crap from a few weeks ago, the corridor, etc.. He's also willing to help despicable people like Rudy Giuliani if he gets something out of it.

Perry is not an unknown variable to a lot of us.

So, effectively, you are telling us that electing Perry is equivalent to offering America yet another corporate crook, with which I completely agree. WOSG says that is the best the Republican Party can do, yet it's almost as toxic as selling another Nixon or Bush.

Let it not be forgotten that the damage they did is what gave us both Obama and Slave Party congress. Another mistake like that and we DEFINITELY won't survive.

I’m getting my exploratory committee together right now. LOL!! The first 100 days of a Redneck Assault Weapon Presidency would include:

1. Ted Nugent appointed to oversee the dismantling of the BATF.
2. 18 month program to phase TSA out of airport security and replaced by private security funded and supervised by the airports and airlines. No more patdowns, no more naked body scanners
3. EPA shutdown.
4. 20,000 troops on the border to seal er up. One way heading South no wait border crossings.
5. Mexican trucks out of the US in 30 days.
6. Drill Baby drill.
7. Executive Order rescinding all of Barry Soetoro’s executive orders.
8. Special prosecutor appointed to investigate possible criminal fraud by Barry Soetoro regarding Social Security number, passport application and selective service registration.
9. Pardon Terry Lakin, Ramos and Campeon.
10. Plan the next National Day of Prayer Pastor Breakfast at the Whitehouse.
