MEXICO CITY (AP) — U.S. and Mexican officials signed an agreement Wednesday allowing each country's trucks to traverse the other's highways, implementing a key provision of the North American Free Trade Agreement after nearly two decades of bickering.

Transportation secretaries Ray LaHood and Dionisio Perez-Jacome signed the three-year memorandum, which is based on an agreement announced in March by Presidents Barack Obama and Felipe Calderon.

NAFTA, signed in 1994, had called for Mexican trucks to have unrestricted access to highways in border states by 1995 and full access to all U.S. highways by January 2000. Canadian trucks have no limits on where they can go.

But until now, Mexican trucks have seldom been allowed farther than a buffer zone on the U.S. side of the border. In retaliation, Mexico had imposed higher tariffs on dozens of U.S. products.

To: Made In The USA

To get around the problem, Mexican trucking firms who send thousands of truckloads of vegetables to the USA have already “sold” their trucks to dummy corporations in Nogales and Rio Rico, AZ. The trucks were then registered with Department of Transportation, given a number, and on the road they went. Their drivers were given US licenses, apparently through friendly arrangements in Nogales, AZ. Thus, people who know the interstate between Nogales and Phoenix have been aware of these Mexican trucks and stay well clear of them. The Highway Patrol is also aware of this, and the number of “foreign” trucks stopped on that route outnumbers the actual American operations.

That’s what I figured but nobody seems to want to know the answer.

Its no different than the left behaves with Obama.

Agreed. It is no different. I've seen people try to claim Perry would never support something, and I point them to a speech from a few years ago on Perry's official website where he advocated doing whatever it was they said he would never support, and they try to claim that he's turned over a new leaf. If we are going to hold Obama responsible for the things he's said and done going back to his Chicago days, we have to be willing to hold our own people accountable for the things they've said and done.
