US, Mexico sign cross-border trucking agreement (Has NAFTA SHAFT'd Ya Today? Just Wait!)

MEXICO CITY (AP) — U.S. and Mexican officials signed an agreement Wednesday allowing each country's trucks to traverse the other's highways, implementing a key provision of the North American Free Trade Agreement after nearly two decades of bickering.

Transportation secretaries Ray LaHood and Dionisio Perez-Jacome signed the three-year memorandum, which is based on an agreement announced in March by Presidents Barack Obama and Felipe Calderon.

NAFTA, signed in 1994, had called for Mexican trucks to have unrestricted access to highways in border states by 1995 and full access to all U.S. highways by January 2000. Canadian trucks have no limits on where they can go.

But until now, Mexican trucks have seldom been allowed farther than a buffer zone on the U.S. side of the border. In retaliation, Mexico had imposed higher tariffs on dozens of U.S. products.

Four years ago he led a delegation down to Mexico to try and drum up business for the US and I expect he'll quickly get down there and do the same now that some tariffs are lifted.

Off and on over the years he's pushed Congress and the White House to work something out with the trucking - you have to remember, his corridor would have relied on an easy flow of trucks from Mexico.

They buy them in bulk from dealers who can’t resell them due to age and cost of repair to make road worthy. Mexico is why you don’t see many semi truck salvage yards. This should scare the crap out of everyone. At first the gubbamint will cover up the reality but I expect it to be so bad they won’t be able to for long. Another reality is its suposed to open up Mexico for US drivers, ask one of the US drivers that goes into Mexico what good this is. (Think car jacked, in alot of places by the police.) The only requirement of a truck in Mexico is a driver brave enough, btw.

Quick poll for all. How many would be more worried about the pot smoking driver than the mexican semi truck?

-can’t help it-

“How long before a mexican truck plows into a car and kills everyone?”

That has already been happening in California. Now the rest of the country will get to share in our wealth of diversity.

This is a cleaned up a## kissing PC accout too,
“If you haven’t driven in Mexico before, and especially if you are not very fluent in Spanish, stick to the toll roads.”
“..travel these sections of road under the speed limit to make sure your car makes it back up north without any suspension or other issues..”
“The Mexican Federal Police (Policia Federal or “Federales”) patrol the roads. Unfortunately, the culture of “mordida” (the term for bribe in the local slang) still prevails, ..do not know English. “
“If you are going uphill and you see oncoming traffic, pull over to the side of the road, well out of the way, and either slow down or stop. If you are going downhill, use caution as the driver may not have read this.”
“Expect checkpoints along most major and some minor roads manned by the Mexican military: mostly with automatic weapons. You will be asked for driver’s licence and insurance information. Your vehicle will be searched, with varying degrees depending upon your attitude, your load, and how bored they are.”
“Many guidebooks and travellers advise against driving at night. This is excellent advice..and the occasional person who has fallen asleep on the warm road..”
“Mexican semi-trucks (”camiones”) drive fast and furiously. They will take as much of the road as they are able; give them as much room as you can.”
“AAA and other travel magazines advise you not to stop for broken-down motorists because this is a common trap set by bandits who are out for your cash.”

That’s a bit of hyperbole, but not much.

The illegal population in California grew and entrenched itself under President “Family Values Don’t Stop At The Rio Grande, Jobs Americans Won’t Do Anymore, Comprehensive Immigration Reform” Bush.

I’m sure that the Democrats could hardly believe their good fortune in having a Republican President working to increase their future voting base.

We are. Seriously. Losing our nation.

It's the North American union coming together...Get rid of American sovereignty, get rid of the borders etc...The insider super wealthy get wealthier, while America twists in the wind, it's standard of living nose dives, and government controls more, and expands..

People that believe globalism, global world government, global U.N. control by the extreme wealthy and powerful, is some kind of tin foil conspiracy, pie in the sky, are simply full of cheet or are tying to minimize what is obviously incrementally being implemented before our eyes.

I'm starting to think our elections are nothing but a bone thrown for distraction.....A choreographed deception to keep people preoccupied, while in reality, we're being led down the path.

per LaHood.. ‘safety concerns have been resolved’.

sounds like Woody Allen ‘checking the cell structure’ scene, in the movie ‘Sleeper’

That’s what I figured but nobody seems to want to know the answer.

Its no different than the left behaves with Obama.

Obama,Calderon and the cartels have pulled off a coup de tat while we watched 24 hr non-stop Casey Anthony trial coverage.

That's exactly right. But even Drudge only has a small report easily missed because it's directly under the page title. My concerns as well, are the insect, disease etc. which will be ushered into our country....we are being invaded and the Obama administration is rolling out the red carpet for it.
