TSA warns airlines of 'human bombs' By: Jennifer Epstein July 6, 2011 10:50 AM EDT

Transportation security officials are warning airlines on Wednesday that “human bomb” terrorists may try to use surgically implanted explosives to blow up planes.

Though there is no intelligence about a specific plot, the Transportation Security Administration is nonetheless urging domestic and international carriers to be aware of the potential threat.

The warnings are part of an effort “to provide greater insights into recent intelligence indicating the continued interest of terrorists to target aviation,” TSA press secretary Nick Kimball said in a statement.

“Due to the significant advances in global aviation security in recent years, terrorist groups have repeatedly and publicly indicated interest in pursuing ways to further conceal explosives,” he added.

A U.S. security official told POLITICO that the threat is seen as more “likely to come from overseas rather than domestically but we are taking precautionary steps both internationally and here in the U.S.”

As security measures become more sophisticated, terrorists have sought out new ways to conceal explosives, and surgically implanted bombs are one of the latest tactics that terrorists are believed to be trying to use.

In a memo sent to Britain’s transportation department, the TSA said the U.S. government “has information indicating doctors have offered to help extremists surgically implant explosive devices in humans and animals for terrorist attacks,” the Daily Mirror reported Wednesday. The memo notes that airports don’t have one surefire way to screen for the bombs.

..talk about being mis directed and totally inept.

Its not the north American who wants to bring the demise upon himself.... its just the muslims. And they dont have to be crazy, just be themselves, peace loving followers of the Koran.

What they should do is make it mandatory all people have pork treats prior to flying, then scan the guys who refuse the pork snacks.

The solution is to allow people from the Middle East to fly only on their own airplanes; and, keep those out of civilized air space.

I call BS They just want to be able to grope and photograph and depants white grandmothers

Not really. A couple of years ago a Yemeni terrorist tried to kill a Saudi Minister with a bomb concealed up his butt. The minister survived with minor injuries the terrorist did not.

I would have loved to hear the interview with the police. I would expect it went like this, "He dropped his pants, mooned me and his ass exploded."

"new ways"

New ways? It occurred to me on 9/11/01 that if a breast implant can contain silicone then it can contain explosives. I bet it occurred to the terrorists long before that. Nice to see TSA getting up to speed.

This sounds like more BS propaganda to justify the TSA and their security measures. Even is this were true would anyone expect the TSA to be able to stop this?
Also terrorists could have done this anytime in the last 10 years, so why have they not done it? This kind of action sounds easier said than done. Exactly what kind of explosive would be implanted and how would it be detonated?

I’ve already had that happen. I have a spinal cord stimulator in the back of my left hip, and it got a thorough prodding last time I was through Detroit Metro. I carry a medical card that explains it (similar to a pacemaker in technology) but they really don’t look at those cards.

This pretty much ends air travel for me. I wasn’t big on flying anyway, but I hate the loss of this freedom.

LOL, thats grand. Today, the TSA in all its invasiveness cant reliably detect guns, knives etc. What makes anyone believe they’ll find ‘human bombs’? All it’ll take is for one plane to be blown up and the rest of the airline industry will plummet into a chasm of financial ruin. If the TSA was effectively a no-op that would be great news. However, they’re a net negative, like almost every other creation of DC, which sucks everything positive into a black hole of no return. It wasn’t good enough for the Arabs to kill us on 9/11. The Congress and RINO pres (Bush Jr) had to add salt to the wound ala the TSA. Thanx a million....

Lets face it the TSA does not look for terrorists! They treat everyone like terrorists. Just how many have they caught?

I see I am not the only one who thinks that this is a little too convenient of an announcement by the Obama Admin given how vocal we have become about the American Gestapo known as TSA.

I’ll go out on that limb .... I simply do not believe this and think it is more BS for the Feds to become more intrusive.

I think the TSA wants us to believe that we are dealing with SPECTRE, the fictional terrorist organization with unlimited means from the James Bond movies. Look at what it would take to carry this out. You would need a bomb small enough to fit into a human body and powerful enough to overcome the natural squelching effect of a human body ( think of all those stories of soldiers who threw themselves on grenades to save their comrades). You would need to seal it up so that it wouldn’t short out inside a human body, and sterilize it and the operating room so the ‘patient’ won’t die of septic shock before he gets on the plane. You would also need a surgeon skilled enough to do the operation and fasten the device so that it doesn’t prematurely kill the patient.
Then again they may simply try to smuggle the device the way some drug mules have tried to do it. I am not looking forward to the pre-flight colonoscopy

The TSA needs to be dissolved.

How and I mean how politically? No politician wants to be the one blamed for reducing our "security". No airline wants to pay for this.

The Chechen black widows were said to have placed 1lb of C4 in their uterus when they blew up a Russian plane a few years back. So this comes as no surprise.
