President Obama seems to have a love-hate relationship with the nation's largest teacher's union.
On Monday, the National Education Association endorsed Obama in 2012 -- long before his Republican opponent has even been selected. But the vote of confidence comes in spite of the fact that educators are less than thrilled with the president's efforts to reform education.
Two days before endorsing the president, the NEA passed a resolution outlining 13 areas where the union adamantly disagrees with the policies of Obama's education secretary, Arne Duncan.
The NEA letter states that educators are "appalled" by Duncan's emphasis on competitive grants, standardized testing and one-size-fits-all policies.
"It's pretty clear that there was plenty of discussion and, sort of, hand-wringing about the fact they had no choice but to endorse the president, Obama being much better than the alternative," said Mike Petrilli, the executive vice president at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute.

you have insulted boxes of rocks everywhere....hope your happy.
Well, who else are they going to endorse? Dtrategically, for the NEA, this makes sense..maybe they can extract something from Obama for doing this..
They may be “appalled” by the things mentioned, but they’re more in love with the payola and the “free money” the democrats hand out to their union pals, so they’ll hold their noses and vote for theft over principle.
Stunning brilliance from our "educators." At this point in time, the alternative is the "generic Republican" which doesn't seem to have a specified platform. Other than preserving and saving the Republic from the commies.
No and Conservatives need to run on eliminating the Dept. of Education and putting it back to the state and local levels.
How...exactly...would ridding the nation of the Dept. of Education (which, by the way, I fully endorse) convince teachers - as a whole - to change their political philosophy...or at least move more to "the center"??
But they are STALINISTS.
Eliminating the Dept. of Education would be a good thing, and something the next conservative president should do. But it is also why the NEA chooses O over the “generic Republican”.
And perhaps, if you had been educated by other than a public school teacher, you’d KNOW that the proper spelling and usage would be “hope you’re happy”!
If they “really” hate the policies so much then they would have no problem eliminating the Dept. of Education.
I would think that they'd stand to get more out of Obama by making it at least *seem* like they were wavering in their support. But... I suppose that one can't expect a bunch of five-dollar whores to play "hard to get".
I assume by using the term "they", you refer to all teachers?
Also...even if all of them - as a body - loathed the Dept. of Education, that in no way ensures it's demise.
My question remains....what can conservatives do to alter the philosophy of teachers - as a whole - from dem/lib/prog/pop to repub/rino/conserv/tpary?
GREEDY TEACHERS! GREEDY UNION!
DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS!
USEFUL IDIOTS!
GROUP THINKING FOOLS!
IF TEACHERS CAN’T SEE THAT, THEN YOU SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING!
I don’t want teachers that can’t even use the ‘critical thinking’ skill they are supposed to teach our children!
Anger, anger, anger!
We can’t. The depth and breadth of the progressive programing would require them to be ....deprogrammed. We have several generations of progressive teachers to un-teach.
I'm afraid nothing can be done quickly.
Even if the left loses both houses of Congress and the White House, academe will be churning out graduates with the same political philosophy for years to come.
and BTW I was given a pretty good parochial school education, where the nuns would have wrapped my knuckles with the pointer for confusing my YOUR, YOU'RE...to, too, two etc.(I hate you spell check...when is FR going to have usage check???)
“but sistah’....I thought a Homophone was a fag communication device....OW!”
"Obama gives us Hope and Change!"
