ORLANDO, Fla. -- The prosecutor in the Casey Anthony murder trial has decided to retire, sources told WFTV on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Jeff Ashton was part of the team of attorneys who tried to prove that Casey Anthony was guilty of killing her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. However, the prosecution was not successful.
Casey was found not guilty Tuesday in a case that captivated the nation as it played out on national television from the moment the toddler was reported missing three years ago.

OJ, got off the first time as well.
That’s what I was thinking as well. Sociopaths will eventually do themselves in... only time will tell.
P.S. Whe the first Not Guilty was read...Casey actually smirked...disgusting...
The downfall of this case was the so called forensics... The most scathing and discrediting move by the defense was when they simply recalled the prosecutions forensics folks to the stand and then questioned them into discrediting the so called science.
None of it withstood cross examination, especially the FBI’s lead crime scene tech.
The case was over at that point...
No I would say there was a rabbit anti death penalty individual on the jury, maybe more than one. If I had been on the jury the forensics would not have meant a damn thing, the little girl was missing, her mother did not report it, the car smelled like it had a dead body rotting in it. Hang Her!!!!!!
In disgrace!
They failed to prove both homocide and that she did it. The autopsy was botched. They never established that she died abnormally. Failing that, it was pure speculation.
I personally believe she killed her. However, certain proofs have to be met and the entire case hinged on emotion and speculation and absolutely no evidence. Every point the prosecutor brought out was refuted completely by the defense. They claimed 85 searches for cholorform now they determined that it was maybe once. Little things like that will destroy a prosecution.
I hope George, Cindy, Lee and Casey rot in hell.
I hope Casey moves back in with the family. They deserve each other.
They will continue to say they don’t know what happened to Caylee, but they all
know. Why did George, Cindy and Lee not agree to a lie-detector tests.
Disgusting!
I didn’t see that and I was watching her carefully. I saw a scared puppy who was trying to steel her self for the worst, which, it was obvious to me, she fully expected. I don’t think it sank in for a while after the 3 Not Guiltys.
I suppose it would be what “camera” you were watching...I’ll try to find it.
How was the autopsy botched? All that was to be examined was bones sifted out of a drying swamp after the scavengers cleaned the bones. And that duct tape that kept the mandible affixed to the rest of the skull. The defense sure made no attempt to make sure an pristine autopsy was done, all they did was drag in some old guy that made claims about some imagined protocol about sawing a skull in two to examine the inside of the skull. A skull that had NO tissue left to examine.
Reasonable people would NEVER put duct tape around the head of their child having just died from an accident.
“I would say there was a rabbit anti death penalty individual on the jury...”. Your comment suggests that you suspect that someone on the jury was against death penalties for rabbits. I think you meant rabid, but it certainly lends itself to PETA type theories. Interviews over the next few days will answer the question of rabid anti death penalty jury members.
Damn Droid changed the word, and I did not catch it.
And there you have it. 100% correct. Overcharged and stuck with a bungled investigation driven by the media frenzy. Thank you.
If it was an anti death penalty sentiment the jury could have found her guilty on the lesser charges buts that’s not what happened.
They completely rejected the entire case sans her lying about her non existent job to police... Which was never in question, her lawyers told the jury she lied.
Your speculation simply don’t past the common sense test.
While I thought Ashton’s arguments were sound and he made great points, I was greatly distracted by his constant uncapping, sipping, and recapping of his bottled water.
I hope that the jurors had access to bottled water of their own during the arguments, otherwise it would be an even worse distraction to them.
I am very disappointed in the verdict because I thought Linda Drane Burdick really made the case for guilty in her closing. The whole thing leaves me with a sadness over the state of our legal system and fear that the jury system has become saturated with jurors who feel it is wrong to judge anyone who can claim that their actions as adults are the result of wrongs done to them when they were children.
Sounds like you nailed it. The jury heard a different case than what was presented thru the media.
