AUSTIN, Tex. Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican contemplating a presidential run, shares many attributes with the last man who ran for president from here, his predecessor and onetime patron, George W. Bush. He has the same straight-legged Texas swagger; the down-home, clipped speaking style; the desert-baked conservatism.
But in recent years, Mr. Perry has broken politically with Mr. Bush, questioning his credentials as a fiscal conservative, accusing him of going on a big government binge and playing down some of Mr. Bushs accomplishments in Texas in light of his own.
Mr. Perrys public statements exposed a long-simmering rivalry that had been little known outside of the political fraternity here but underscores the rightward drift of the Republican Party since Mr. Bush was president. More acutely, Mr. Perrys criticism holds potential peril and benefit for him should he decide to mount a presidential campaign, allowing him to establish an identity distinct from Mr. Bush but risking a guerrilla campaign against him by the former presidents inner circle.
Mr. Perry, whose aides say will make a decision within weeks, has been meeting around the country with potential fund-raisers, and last week went to Colorado for a gathering of prominent conservative rainmakers held by members of the Koch family, which helped finance the Tea Party movement.....
On government spending, immigration and education, Mr. Perrys criticisms of Mr. Bush have given him cachet with conservatives, especially with Tea Party voters who blame the former president for allowing spending and the reach of government to grow rapidly.
Those criticisms have burnished the Perry image as less prone to ideological compromise or a fuzzy compassionate brand of conservatism, an appealing trait to those Republican primary voters seeking purity in their nominee....

We are not killing them off. They killed themselves off.
It is well known by insiders that knew Bush and Cheney that Bush gave Rick Perry a nickname. The nickname is "The Dumbass".
I would not go so far as to say that. It’s obvious, that one went smoking right over the tops of their heads.
My dear, you have it backwards. The Bush's have gone after Rick Perry.
Re: Taking it to Obama.
Obama certainly doesn't like the Photo ID that took Gov. Rick Perry 6 years to get passed.
Obama doesn't like a lot of things about Perry's politics or Texans for that matter.
Perry voices concern to feds about anti-Israel flotillas -- June 29, 2011 ....Perry wrote in a letter dated Wednesday, According to numerous recent media reports, American citizens and organizations, together with a coalition of violent anti-Israeli organizations from other countries, have organized efforts to breach Israels Maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip as early as this week.
He continued, The act of funding, supporting, organizing and engaging in these efforts appears to constitute participation in a naval expedition against a people with whom the United States is at peace, as well as material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization and other violations....
The letter concludes, I respectfully request that the U.S. Department of Justice take immediate steps to investigate, enjoin and bring to justice all parties found to be in violation of U.S. law by their participation in these efforts....

"......When Obama continued to refuse even five minutes for the Governor, Perry took matters into this own hands and was standing on the tarmac at Austins airport when President Obama stepped off of Air Force One. Obama looked confused, Perry looked determined. Obama still ignored the pleas for help.
Perry again took matters into his own hands, and established an elite unit of Texas Rangers to bolster border security..." Source
Rick Perry Hits Obama on Abortion Before Possible GOP Campaign "....Perry said that, under Obama our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export.
On embryonic stem cell research, he said Obama was turning the remains of unborn children into nothing more than raw material, according to an AP report. Obama is ignoring the overriding responsibility of every government that is to protect citizens at every stage of their lives, especially those who cannot protect themselves, Perry said...."

Rick Perry: Al Gore's gone to Hell
Perry does not believe there is valid scientific proof of anthropogenic global warming. He has said several times that there is no scientific consensus on the issue.
On September 7, 2007 Perry gave a speech to California Republicans. He said, "Virtually every day another scientist leaves the global warming bandwagon. ... But you won't read about that in the press because they have already invested in one side of the story."

You have no LINK because you are just throwing out anything to see if it sticks.
If you have a complaint explain it and LINK it to facts.
I’m not going to lose sleep over my first choice for president.
But I will give my opinion and analysis of the situation.
The GOP race is being rigged with splitter candidates being pumped up to cover Romney’s flanks so he can win the nomination.
The political bosses may speak of an “open primary” or “open race” but behind the scenes their money and organization creates the final outcome of the race. This has happened countless times in state and local races.
Conservatives in the grassroots of the GOP aren’t organized and the insiders either overcome the conservatives with money and media behind their candidate (usually projecting a conservative image).
If the conservative opposition is too strong at grassroots level and the moderate insider can’t get a majority in a primary vote, the insiders create a third candidate to run a conservative campaign (tough radical speeches and image) splittng conservative votes so the RINO wins the primary.
We see this strategy now playing out in the presidential race with the fear of Palin and Paul driving the RINO’s to go to extreme lengths with this strategy.

Here you go..There are lots of good things about Perry...After all he is my Governor and I voted for him each and every time he ran..We like him here if we didn’t he would be gone..He is good for Texas and could be great for the country but if you don’t want him then if he does run for president don’t vote for him..He can be our governor and continue to help this state stay #1..
Agree with you....the ideal candidate is for ideologues, whether it be from the left or the right. You can see what it’s done from the left. This is a center right country.
What class.
I understand that the Bushes don't like it when Rick Perry calls George W. Bush, "George" in public.
Imagine? Such disrespect.
You think I don’t like Perry as a candidate?
I wont trust anyone running for president so they better convince me that they are honest and sincere first. And I am not buying that standard crap that :'We have to make believe he is telling us the truth so we can beat Obama at any cost', much like was argued for McCain, it wont fly with me as it didnt fly with most voters.
Last thing I wasnt is to support another Republican Time bomb. At least nearly all congressional Republicans will oppose Obama unlike a president of the same party, example :2007 immigration reform.

Second, Roves opponents would regularly find that they had suddenly become the target
of a criminal investigation, and details concerning the investigation would be
aggressively fanned to the press. Rove mastered this technique in a contest
for the Texas Agriculture Commissioners post that he managed for now-Governor Rick Perry.
It Started in Texas: Karl Roves Political Prosecutions
http://www.harpers.org/archive/2007/07/hbc-90000569
1. Rove was hired to run the campaign of Rick Perry, the current governor,
for the powerful Texas office of Commissioner of Agriculture, then held by
Democrat Jim Hightower. Shortly thereafter, it was clear that a major
FBI investigation had been launched into the workings of the Texas Agriculture
Department (TDA), focusing on Hightower and his senior lieutenants, who had been
pursuing a populist, anti-corporate agriculture and pro-small-farmer agenda.
Jim Hightower talks about his new book, “Thieves in High Places: They’ve Stolen Our Country and it’s Time to Take it Back”
http://www.buzzflash.com/interviews/03/08/21_hightower.html
HIGHTOWER: Rick Perry, back then (currently Texas Governor), was his client, so to speak,
and Perry had been recruited. He was sort of a nothing Texas legislator who had been brought
in — again as an affable fellow without any brain muscle. Perry was essentially sent to
wander around out in West Texas during the campaign so he would be out of the way,
while Rove worked this FBI agent and raised money from the chemical industry
and other corporate interests that opposed me. Rove had George Bush go on
television against me. Then Rove ran a series of television ads that
established a new low in negative advertising.
For example, they showed a long-haired guy setting a flag on fire,
and throwing it on the ground. And then my picture came up out of the fire, and said
“Hightower supports flag burning,” which, of course, I don t. But it doesn t matter,
you know. I had to go around answering: “Why do you support flag burning?”
Rove had another ad of me campaigning with Jesse Jackson, who I supported in 1988
in the Presidential campaign. And Rove ran this ad that essentially was a smear
on Jackson and then tying me to him. The ad so angered the Black Caucus in the State Legislature
that they convened their own press conferences in Houston and Dallas to assail it. But again it was too late.
All this was happening in the last three weeks of the election. So, I mean, that s just who the guy is.
It is merely your BELIEF that the race is being rigged. Conspiracy mongering is not new to this forum to say the least.
In all reality, it is a more simple as well as difficult problem for us. And that is, the fact the the average American is simply ignorant and is easily swayed by a collective mindset.
In 2008, when the Conservative base was busy squabbling over the purest candidates, McCain slipped in through the back door. The MSM had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Nobody “picked” our candidate for us, we simply were too fragmented and could not agree on much of anything when it mattered.
Whoa! Not detecting sarcasm. If no sarcasm, that’s bad form. No one. NO ONE, thinks we’re getting purity but we’d be wise to dismiss any who’s even remotely open borders. That’s not fringe, that’s not aryan.
What makes you think that the poster might be an "arian-conservative" who doesn't tolerate others?
You are correct in that Perry recieved a campaign donation from Merck. But that isn’t unusual in Texas as much of the political donations come from companies, etc as that is the law in Texas. A four figure donation isn’t that huge when compared to others.
Now with regards to Perry backing off. He didn’t back off per se from his EO of Feb. 07. But rather the legislature got to work and passed a law stopping his EO and had it in place by early May 07. In effect the people’s voice was heard by the legislature and the legislature acted accordingly. This is one item Perry will have to deal with if he runs and it becomes questionable if it will have a large impact on the voting public at large.
You’ve been around here long enough to know better than that.
Lady, just Google Perry/amnesty.
If I’m wrong, rub my nose in it. I don’t expect to hear from you again ;-)
And to think you’ve proclaimed that you are prepared to vote for Huntsman or Romney over Perry (and on top of that you promote Jim Hightower)!
