Our society truly is ill - we continue to throw away our deepest values in exchange for convenience and cede our rights for temporary security. But respect for the rule of law is one thing that still binds us, though tenuously. A compassionate person should always cry out for justice for the innocent victims of violence and equally for punishment of the guilty. As with O.J. Simpson: justice is often delayed, and sometimes wholly frustrated, but it is rarely denied forever. The truth will set the innocent free, and condemn the guilty in time.
