I served 20 years in the Navy, 10 of them stationed aboard carriers (Nimitz, JFK, Ike). A few years ago on a business trip to Charleston, I toured the Yorktown. I was impressed to say the least. But it was the creepiest place I’ve ever been. Walking below decks (on a weekday afternoon wneh there were few tourists) there was no sound. No people, no crew, no machinery running. Just my own footsteps and the ghosts of the men who died on board.

Still trying to catch up.....

Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July, fredhead.

Thank you for sharing your experience aboard the USS Yorktown. I can just imagine the eerie feeling of quiet after all those years aboard the 24/7 hustle and bustle of an active carrier.

We thank you for your service to our country.
