Ethnically-Based Scholarships Awarded

A University of Texas at San Antonio student has become one of the first recipients of a scholarship offered only to Caucasian males.

The pre-law student accepted the $500 scholarship from the Former Majority Association for Equality on Wednesday evening in New Braunfels.

The nonprofit group, started by a Texas State student, claims to be the first to offer an ethnically-based scholarship for Caucasian males.

Daniel Crotty, in his junior year at UTSA, said he was pleased to be awarded the scholarship.

"I'm honored because this organization has such honorable intentions," Crotty said. "I'm just proud to be a part of it."

Crotty was looking for scholarships to cover some of his costs at UTSA when he saw a Facebook post about the scholarship last March. Intrigued by the idea, he did some research on the group and applied.

"I investigated it myself through the article and then through the website of the organization," Crotty said. "It seemed like they had a very valid interest in helping young Caucasian males."

Colby Bohannan came up with the idea for the scholarship more than a year ago.

He and his friends were talking about how difficult it was to find scholarships geared toward them and decided to do something about it.

"It can get kind of frustrating when every other scholarship you need not apply to based upon your gender or your race," Bohannan said. "There's no reason not to have an ethnically-based scholarship for the hardworking families out there that are trying to put their Caucasian boys through school."

The idea did stir up some controversy. Bohannan said while most people who approached him face to face were supportive, he did get some negative feedback in the form of emails and voice mails.

Since there are countless scholarships for women, and for every imaginable ethnic and racial group, there should not be a problem with a scholarship for white males.

Considering all of the other scholarships based on sex or ethnicity, how can anyone seriously criticize this idea? If it’s somehow discrimination to give a scholarship to white men, then it’s also discrimination to award scholarships to women only or to members of ethnic groups only.

I won’t criticize it, but it is cheesy as heck and won’t be having my 3sons apply for this or any other weird race based scholarship. They can apply for the scholarships where everyone is included. Those consist of mainly achedemic types.

That’s the scholarship that caused such an uproar on the news the other day. They can have every minority liberal rainbow scholarship but when it comes to a white boy only scholarship they start whining.

I feel the same way. If I can’t beat ‘em in the classroom, then I don’t deserve the award.

The scholarship is clever agitprop designed to allow the left to display its hypocrisy.
