2 Republicans Open Door to Increases in Revenue
By JOHN M. BRODER
WASHINGTON Two senior Republicans said Sunday that they might be open to raising new government revenue as part of a deal to resolve the dispute over the federal debt ceiling, but they warned that there was little time to enact a comprehensive deal.
One of the senators, John Cornyn of Texas, said he would consider eliminating some tax breaks and corporate subsidies in the context of changes in the tax code, provided there was not an overall increase in taxes.
I think its clear that the Republicans are opposed to any tax hikes, particularly during a fragile economic recovery, Mr. Cornyn said on Fox News Sunday. Now, do we believe tax reform is necessary? I would say absolutely.
But he insisted that any changes in taxes be revenue neutral, meaning that the government would not take in any more money from individuals or businesses than it does now.

If they eliminate entitlements, there will be plenty of revenue.
I like the idea of reaching out across the isle.
Any time our elected leaders can reach out and (figuratively) slap some sense into this ass, I say go for it.
If you go to that page, you will get a more focused picture of the interconnected bills that are being proposed as the third stimulus.
There is another bill that goes with S 942 that would modify an existing bill instead of requiring the passage of a whole new bill to fund the transportation infrastructure that Obama wants. I think that the modification moves money from the original stimulus bill that was supposed to go for passenger rail to freight rail. I'm not sure, but it sounds like they are simply trying to do an end around on the Republicans on this one. The money for the passenger rail projects was cut from the budget twice. The last time on Feb. 19, 2011. So, now the Democrats want to revive the allotment and switch it to freight rail.
Bingo. Facts sure suck sometimes...
Right off the top, I can tell you that my opinion of folks who use properties like this to gain election access, don’t impress me much. Let someone who knows Arizona and it’s particulars have the job. That’s what the people of Arizona have a right to expect.
Yes, if people are honest with themselves, I think they’ll understand where you’re going there. I agree with you.
They sure do........

“I am so ashamed of my 2 Texas senators for thy have both turned out to be RINOs of the worst sort.”
Ain’t nothing RINO about wanting to trade tax loopholes for Tax cuts.
It makes me sick to read it. The info at that link covered a number of bases. It’s a good one.
How does she square his siding with Vietnam to get MFN, while putting the MIA issue behind us to facilitate it, against the virulent objections of their families and Veterans groups?
His POW experience may be stellar. That’s a debate we’re not going to have. His selling out of other possible POWs has rubbed me the wrong way so bad, that as for his military service, it’s at best a wash.
For this reason, the mention of his record as a plus, seriously bothers me.
The smartest woman in the world didn’t know this dynamic going in? Steam coming out of my ears...
no reason for me to watch the video and no reason to read an opinion from the NYSlimes...
any reasonable person would tell you the tax code needs to be changed across the board....its obscene that corporations spend $100K/$200K/$500K on season tickets for the NY Jets, Dallas Cowboys, NY Yankees, etc, and get to write a good portion of it off....
its’ even more obscene that 63.5million people in this nation, most of whom are the largest parasites of taxpayer funded entitlements such as welfare, medicaid, etc, don’t pay an effin cent of federal income tax....
it all screws you and me; people who work 5, 6 days a week, 50/60 hours and live within our means- i don’t want to pay for a corporations season tickets to team XYZ and am sick and tired of paying for able bodied workers that are to effin lazy to get off their asses because its easier to get something for nothing....
the tax code must be changed- lets see if anyone has the balls to do it across the board...
Kaye Bailey Hutchison has been supporting Gateway, multimodal transportation projects in Texas and around the country. Gateway are part of the UN Agenda 21 Wildlands project, that are intended to move people and freight between urban areas and limit the human incursion into rural areas. The projects are most often rail projects, but can encompass many different types of surface transport, as well.
The most recent mention that I have seen on the internet is in relation to the wildfires in AZ and New Mexico. They want to create “gateways” into these areas, which would be a single way in, through and out of the areas, supposedly to protect the water and the area from wild fires.
Anyway, from what I could see, Hutchison has been in full support.
Anytime I see a so-called ‘conservative’ running towards the tall-grass “middle” of the field, it shows me they are really SCARED of taking a STAND for what they CLAIM is their BELIEFS.
If John Cornyn goes along with the Socialist DemoNazis Party, he is good as gone comes the next election. I would rather vote for a Socialist DemoNazi than have a Republican vote turncoat.
I don’t think Cornyn, like Perry, has ever lost an election. Why would he think the uninformed won’t just rubberstamp him again in 2014?
John Tower was TX’s first conservative Republican senator and also its FIRST RINO. The longer he was in D.C., the more left wing he became.
Gee, I may have spoken too soon, perhaps GHWB was TX’s first RINO. He nominated Tower for defense chief in 1989.
I think Palin knows what a cactus is ;-)
” Hayworth shoulda shot back,” Hey, I’m a family man. I needed a job. I don’t have a rich wife writing out checks.”
Hayworth did that verbatim......minus the rich wife part.
