'I want to punch him in his head' By: Maggie Haberman July 3, 2011 02:35 PM EDT
The Newark Star-Ledger has some explosive quotes from one of the two Democratic legislative leaders who recently reached a compromise on a pension reform bill with Gov. Chris Christie regarding the overall state budget:
Senate President Stephen Sweeney went to bed furious Thursday night after reviewing the governors line-item veto of the state budget.
He woke up Friday morning even angrier.
This is all about him being a bully and a punk, he said in an interview Friday.
I wanted to punch him in his head.
Sweeney had just risked his political neck to support the governors pension and health reform, and his reward was a slap across the face. The governors budget was a brusque rejection of every Democratic move, and Sweeney couldnt even get an audience with the governor to discuss it.
You know who he reminds me of? Sweeney says. Mr. Potter from Its a Wonderful Life, the mean old bastard who screws everybody.
This is not your regular budget dispute. This is personal. And it could have seismic impact on state politics.
A Christie spokesman didn't immediately respond to an email. But the pension deal was widely viewed as the antithesis to the bitter battle over union rights in Wisconsin.
And Sweeney's comments could be a harbinger of future rancor, as the nationally-watched governor pivots toward an education reform agenda by the end of the next legislative session.

'Cept Christie is lookin' out for the people and not you or your party .... get it?
Sweeney sounds like an officer in the FSA (Free Stuff Army).
How's that FSA crap working out in Connecticut, Sweeney?
As Senate President Stephen Sweeney and his cronies drive New Jersey into bankruptcy.
Doncha just love the civility from the left?/sarc Punch him in the head. Yeah, just let him try. I think Gov. Christie would flatten the blowhard like a pancake.
No punch in the head ever fed a hungry child.
Make love, not war.
Can’t we all just get along?
Visualize World Peace.
Our Diversity is our Strength.
Are these not Liberal/Dem slogans? Which one was the guy acting on, who wanted to punch Christy in the head?
That's the one thing I hated about "It's A Wonderful Life" - Potter never got his comeuppance - the mean old b*****d should have gone bankrupt. He stole that money!
Oh the civility ....
Yea, maybe twenty-five years ago maynerd...
I wanted to punch him in his head.
Alright, you have proved that you are an idiot.
Christy seems to be p!$$!ng off all of the right people from my vantage point in PA.
Once again, democrats show that they’re always - always - the first to invoke violence in a political discussion.
Of course, talking is pretty much the sum of their game.
Sounds like Sweeney met with Christie, made an agreement, then when Christie followed through Sweeney tells everyone the governor is throwing momma under the bus.
Typical Democrat strategy.
I wanted to punch him in his head.
Hey punch-bowl - er’ punch-boy - We won!!!!
They don't even listen to themselves. Why should anyone else listen to 'em?
To be fair, Christie said that someone should take a bat to Democrat state senator Loretta Weinberg a few weeks ago.
Ah...He stole that line from Mary Landrieu who told that to Bush after Katrina. Libs never come up with anything origional.
It would appear so. I am watching Christie with interest, he seems immune to being pushed around by Democrats.
Liberals are mean, all right—as in really, really mean. Fifteen minutes on DemocraticUnderground will show you enough bile and hatred to last a year. I had an uber-lib boss one time. Mean as a snake. She was the rule, not the exeption.
If a conservative wanted to punch a Dem in the head, the story would be the former’s out of control anger and the danger he posed to the Dem. When it’s vice versa, it’s about how the bully Christy drove this reasonable, accommodating man over the edge. The bias is getting worse. Thank heaven for Breitbart.
