Perry, Palin aren't running, just enjoying the ride
Beaumont Enterprise ^ | July 3, 2011 | Thomas Taschinger (I bet is a democrat)

Rick Perry and Sarah Palin aren't stupid, no matter what you might think of them. They are riding a comet, and they are in no hurry to get off.

I'm talking about the possibility of running for president.

Neither one will probably take the plunge. Given the realities of modern campaigning and fund-raising, they'd already be in this thing if they were serious about it. Both are content in their real jobs - Perry as governor of a huge state, Palin as a money-making-machine and voice of the hard Right.

But why stop the fun?

As long as they are referred to as "possible" candidates, they have an influence that just can't be beat.

Every speech and political move they make is followed with enthusiasm by the 24-hour news cycle. Witness Palin's earlier bus tour of the East Coast. If she were officially a non-candidate, she'd attract little or no coverage for a stunt like that. But her bus was eagerly followed by packs of reporters who hung around her just in case something happened, like an announcement that she was running.

Turns out nothing happened, except she muffed the reason for Paul Revere's ride. ("Hey, you British! The British are coming!")

It's possible that a wavering candidate can attempt a what-the-heck late fling that defies all the conventional wisdom about how to run for president, but that's risky. It probably won't succeed, and you will probably look like an idiot when your candidacy inevitably craters.

That undoes everything that the earlier tease built up - that you are a serious person who deserves to be considered for the most important job on earth. In the case of Palin, who is wavering on the edge of respectability, that's a mistake you don't want to make.

No, this is something you want to stretch out as long as possible. You give major speeches on important issues. You go to meetings and conventions you'd otherwise blow off. If national interest is waning, you hint that you might be jumping in after all.

And it's always possible, of course, that lightning will strike and party elders will beg you to ride to the rescue if no strong contender emerges. In Perry's case, this raises his stock for a VP selection, though he probably doesn't want that either.

Eventually, the game will end. A front-runner will emerge, or the primary season will be so close that the Hamlet act runs out of steam.

But for a few weeks, or a few months, you are one of only a handful of people who might someday be ... the president of the United States. That's a heady feeling, and in fact you'd almost be a fool not to flirt with the idea.

Besides, if nothing else, you can always tell the grandkids about it some day.

That's very true!

But even with a strong candidate and we defeat the GOP RINO operatives, it will still be difficult to take the Presidency away from Obama. It is the tradition of incumbent Presidents to have that natural advantage from the start.

In addition to that, we now have 15 million Americans out of work, holding their hands out for Obama to fill them up.

And This is what the Democrats are masters of. California is a prime example of that real and powerful force. It seems the more dependent on Government they make the population, the more power they are given.

The big gov GOP phony Rick Perry, was chosen weeks ago by the political elite insiders to run. It's been decided.

They'll announce this to you when they're ready.

I agree — the Dems will pull out all the stops, all the dirty tricks, including election fraud. They understand what is at stake — I hope conservatives do too: the survival of the nation.

Some live in a dreamworld, thinking that anyone can beat Obama, this is dangerous, because they may not work hard enough and Obama could stay president for another 4 years, then the country is toast, literally.

I would think the most obvious choice for Perry would be Bachmann. She stands to gain a high running status and run a close second to Perry. Romney will start to slide rapidly since he decided he is above Iowa.

Who is Bolton’s constituency?

What block of people does he bring to the ticket?

The VP choice is not just window dressing, it’s strategic.

Some actually want to defeat Obama, rather than throwing “RINO”-bombs at all Republicans, while Obama gets reelected.

When Perry took over for GWB the budget for the state was 46 billion this year it had a 20% CUT to get it down to 90 billlion. He doubled the state government in 9 years.

Remember, Bush went against tradition, when he picked Cheney.

But as I said, I am not insisting on Bolton, whoever helps Perry get elected, is fine with me, but I would draw the line at Ron Paul. ;)

Perry is smart enough to pick the right person, whoever that might be.

I was getting a bit ahead, let’s just get Perry to run and win the nomination, taking it away from Romney, who is currently poised to win it.

Texas has also almost doubled in size economically since GWB also. Business is migrating there in massive numbers for a reason.

Which is why it is imperative that conservatives become involved at the precinct level where they can organize and keep the elections honest.

got a link to a video of that question? I haven’t seen it, we have all seen the answer but I never seen the question.

and if the question is what you are saying it is. then would not finding out that Paul revere warned the British not be something you would take away from a trip since it is a factiod that 99% of the American people don’t know?

Esp when the curator of the Paul Revere house came out and said he had just told Palin that?

nay you will find something wrong with that. IT is why you do. Palin was 100% on what she said. She took away that foactiod from her visit and when asked she repeated what she took away from her visit but for the PDS among us that is just crazy talk. or something. Go get some help.

And get the link to the question until I see and hear it for my self I don’t take anything as truth from the media anymore

Unlike your state of California, Texas passed a balanced budget, did not raise taxes and has a $2Billion (I may not have that exact # right but it's something like that) rainy day fund.

Business are flocking to Texas, as are people to work for them (quite a few from California, I would guess).

Texas does not have state income tax like your state of California (which is broke, raised taxes and passed a budget, where if those phantom new revenues ($$$$$ Gov Brown dreams will be squeezed from a bloodless turnip) don't magically appear is going deeper into the dumper.

Even though Texas relies on property taxes (took a huge hit due to Democrat schemes in the mortgage industry, Fannie Mae, etc) we still have a healthy, growing economy and can pay our bills.

If you ask a kid in school about. Paul and what he did, an improper answer would be he rode out to warn the British.

For the Second time now, you are making up the question that Palin was asked. Palin wasn't asked what Revere did. Palin was asked what she is going to take away from her visit.

The questions obviously leads one to respond with new information one has learned from such a visit.

Palin most certainly responded to the question delivering new information about Paul Revere even your dopey hypothetical school kid doesn't know.

LOL, so it's OK Perry doubled the state government in just 9 years.

You people are something else but are certainly not conservatives.

I don’t think Palin is running.

I don't count her out at all.

She marches to the beat of her own drummer, and isn't particularly concerned with the opinions and predictions of the political class that claim she needs to follow certain pre-ordained GOP expectations.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if she got in after Labor Day weekend.

But Perry/Bolton, I could support that. Bolton is solid in my book, and would be a real boost to Perry on the foreign policy front.

Without having already filed all the necessary documents with the FEC to get in by the 4th, I believe you had better find a good condiment for that “fillet de sole”, and hope it isn't any smaller than a size 6.

I had not heard that, interesting.

So then Palin was asked what she takes away from her visit and she responds appropriately with new information supplied to her by her host.

What I said was the sentence the author of the story made about Paul was correct, the fact he was later captured had no bearing on the intent of his ride. And I made up no question about what she was ask, since her answer was gibberish, it makes no difference. But she was not ask about Paul Revere.
