From pythons in the Everglades, to coyotes in the suburbs, to iguanas and Muscovy ducks in any given backyard, South Florida is a magnet for exotic invading species.
Now comes the latest gate-crasher: the ill-tempered, all-devouring Nile monitor, a large African lizard that has discovered in South Florida a splendid place to seek prey and raise a family.

Since these are undocumented lizards whose offspring
will be born in the US, is it really fair to separate
them? /S

I doubt he got to Florida by himself. These kinds of critters are almost always let loose by mouthbreathing morons who start them as pets, get tired of them or they get too big to be convenient, and the gibbering idiots just let them loose in the environment.

No problem. It’ll cause millions in damage. Just allocate millions in bounties for us redneck hunters to go in and kill everything that moves. No problem.

"It's fine and dandy to kill them," Hardin said, cautioning that one must do it in a humane manner or face criminal charges. Great! In Cali you'd have to file several Environmental Impact Reports first and get PeTA sanction.

There are also quite a few folks with very nasty non-native snakes here. Things like black mambas which have escaped.

Shoot.... Shovel.... Shut-up... With all of the "protected" species down here, yes, but not necessary with some non-game and/or invasive species such as this. As long as you're legally using the firearm at hand, you can shoot them all day long with no consequences whatsoever.
Heck in Florida we can hunt hogs without a license, using a 10.5 inch short barrel rifle, at night, with a 30 round magazine.
